  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

    Cardinals' Matt Carpenter: Gets breather

Carpenter is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Athletics.

Carpenter has started the past 13 games for the Cardinals, slashing .196/.311/.373 with one home run and three stolen bases during that stretch. Tommy Edman is starting at third base and hitting leadoff in his stead.

  • Brandon Belt DH | TOR

    Giants' Brandon Belt: Hitting leadoff

Belt is starting at first base and hitting leadoff Wednesday against the Rockies, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Belt will stick atop the order for a second straight game after going 0-for-3 with an RBI in his first game as the leadoff man Tuesday. The first baseman owns a .354 on-base percentage in 75 contests this season, so he could stick as the leadoff man until Steven Duggar (back) gets healthy or Joe Panik gets going at the dish.

  • Marcell Ozuna DH | PIT

Cardinals' Marcell Ozuna: On base four times in loss

Ozuna went 2-for-3 with a double and two walks in a loss to the Athletics on Tuesday.

Ozuna was once again a bright spot for the Cardinals in yet another lackluster offensive night from a team perspective. The veteran outfielder has bounced back nicely after struggling to a .226 average in May, as he's now hitting .305 during June following his eighth multi-hit effort of the month. Moreover, with another 12 RBI in since the calendar flipped, Ozuna has extended his very comfortable team lead in that category to 62, a figure which also ties him for third in all of baseball.

  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Cardinals' Matt Carpenter: Timely triple in loss

Carpenter went 1-for-5 with a two-run triple and a run in a loss to the Athletics on Tuesday.

Carpenter erased an early 1-0 deficit for the Cardinals by lacing his second three-bagger of the season with Yadier Molina and Kolten Wong aboard in the second inning. While that extended Carpenter's modest on-base streak to four games, the veteran has actually regressed at the plate during June, following a lackluster May during which he hit .237. Factoring in Tuesday's line, Carpenter is hitting just .213 during the current month and has logged another 23 strikeouts, pushing his career-high whiff rate to 24.7 percent.

  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Dodgers' Justin Turner: Out as expected

Turner is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Diamondbacks, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

As expected, Turner will get a scheduled day off with the Dodgers playing an afternoon game following a night game. In his place, Max Muncy is covering third base, with Joc Pederson at first and Matt Beaty in left. Over his last 10 games, Turner is slashing .250/.308/.417 with one home run and three RBI.

  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Dodgers' Justin Turner: Breaks home run drought

Turner went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a 3-2 victory against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

This was Turner's first homer since June 14, and just his second of the month. Turner hit five long balls in May, but April was a very dry homer period too, as he only had one in that month. Turner's power has been increasingly deteriorating since he smashed a career-best 27 homers in 2016. Part of his decline has been the fact he hasn't been completely healthy the last couple years. He's on pace to hit between 15-20 homers this year, and so far, he's missed minimal time in 2019 because of injury. Turner is batting .300 with eight home runs, 31 RBI, 38 runs and one steal in 260 at-bats this season.

  • Joc Pederson DH | TEX

Dodgers' Joc Pederson: On bench against lefty

Pederson won't start against lefty Robbie Ray and the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

Pederson remains in his typical platoon role. After starting four straight games at first base, he'll give way for Matt Beaty for Tuesday's contest.

  • Jesse Winker DH | NYM

Reds' Jesse Winker: Sits against lefty

Winker will be on the bench against lefty Andrew Heaney and the Angels on Tuesday.

As per usual, Winker won't get to start against a southpaw. Phillip Ervin gets the nod in left field in his absence.

  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Dodgers' Justin Turner: Will rest Wednesday

Turner will sit for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

The Dodgers play a day game Wednesday coming off a night game, so manager Dave Roberts said Turner will get a maintenance day for the midweek road tilt with Arizona. Roberts said he hasn't decided who will man the hot corner in Turner's place, but Russell Martin has been taking reps at the position and is a potential option.

  • Brandon Belt DH | TOR

    Giants' Brandon Belt: Getting breather

Belt is not in the lineup Monday against the Rockies, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Belt will head to the bench for Monday's series opener after starting the past 10 games, slashing .118/.262/.147 with a 7:6 BB:K during that stretch. In his place, Pablo Sandoval is starting at first base and hitting cleanup.
