  • Mets' Daniel Vogelbach: On bench Thursday

Vogelbach is out of the lineup Thursday versus the White Sox.

Francisco Alvarez will take a turn as the Mets' designated hitter after Vogelbach went 1-for-3 with a single and a walk in that role Wednesday. The 30-year-old Vogelbach holds an underwhelming .682 OPS in 207 total plate appearances this season with New York.

  • Cubs' Christopher Morel: Two walks in return

Morel (neck) went 0-for-2 with two walks and a run scored in Wednesday's 8-3 win over the Nationals.

Morel sat out Tuesday due to neck tightness. This was his first multi-walk game since June 4 -- the 24-year-old is walking at a 7.8 percent rate while striking out at a 30.1 percent clip this season. Despite those lopsided marks, he's maintained a .273/.330/.551 slash line with 15 home runs, 41 RBI, 38 runs scored and two stolen bases through 54 contests overall. He's played primarily at second base lately, but he could move to third base once Dansby Swanson (heel) returns.

  • Cubs' Christopher Morel: Back in lineup Wednesday

Morel (neck) is back in the lineup Wednesday against the Nationals.

Morel was scratched from the Cubs' lineup Tuesday due to neck tightness, but it has proven to be a minor issue. He will start at second base and bat sixth Wednesday versus the Nats and right-hander Trevor Williams.

  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Padres' Matt Carpenter: Takes seat Wednesday

Carpenter is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Blue Jays.

Carpenter has survived the Padres' recent roster churn -- while Nelson Cruz and Rougned Odor did not -- but Fernando Tatis is taking a turn as the DH on Wednesday versus the Blue Jays and right-hander Jose Berrios. Juan Soto, Trent Grisham and Taylor Kohlwey will start across the outfield.

  • Jesse Winker DH | NYM

Brewers' Jesse Winker: On bench against lefty

Winker is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.

The Phillies are bringing lefty Cristopher Sanchez to the hill for the series finale, so the lefty-hitting Winker will unsurprisingly head to the bench. Christian Yelich will get a day out of the outfield and will replace Winker as the Brewers' designated hitter.

  • Pirates' Andrew McCutchen: On bench Wednesday

McCutchen is not in the starting lineup Wednesday versus the Guardians.

McCutchen will take a seat after he went 2-for-8 with a double and a strikeout over the first two games of the series. Carlos Santana will slot in at designated hitter while Ji-Man Choi starts at first base and bats cleanup in the series finale with Cleveland.

  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

    Dodgers' J.D. Martinez: Sitting Wednesday

Martinez is not in the starting lineup Wednesday against the Orioles, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Martinez will get a breather after he went 2-for-9 with two RBI, a run scored and four strikeouts over the first two games of the series. Will Smith will slot in at designated hitter while Austin Barnes enters the lineup at catcher and bats ninth in the series finale with Baltimore.

  • Reds' Christian Encarnacion-Strand: Delivers home run off bench

Encarnacion-Strand went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run in Tuesday's 11-10 loss to San Francisco.

Encarnacion-Strand, who went 0-for-3 in his major-league debut Monday, homered as a pinch hitter for Jake Fraley to make his first MLB hit a special one. It gave the Reds an 8-7 lead, but they couldn't hold it. Encarnacion-Strand stayed in the game as the third baseman and singled in his next plate appearance.

  • Cubs' Christopher Morel: Scratched Tuesday

Morel was scratched from the Cubs' lineup Tuesday against Washington due to neck tightness, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Miles Mastrobuoni will fill in at second base while Morel sits. Morel is still available off the bench, so his injury likely isn't too serious, and he should be considered day-to-day going forward.

  • Mark Canha LF | TEX

Mets' Mark Canha: Added to lineup Tuesday

Canha was added to the lineup for Tuesday's game against the White Sox.

Canha will cover right field and bat eighth in place of Starling Marte, who was scratched due to a migraine headache. It doesn't sound like Marte will be out long, though Canha has been seeing semi-regular playing time at other positions (left field, DH) as he continues to get on base at a decent clip.
