Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Only expected to miss 2-to-3 days

Manager Brad Ausmus announced Tuesday that he doesn't expect Cabrera (biceps) to miss more than 2-to-3 days, Katie Strang of ESPN reports.

This is positive news all things considered after Cabrera exited Monday's game with a strained biceps. He'll miss Tuesday's lineup and very well could sit out Wednesday as a precaution, but the injury seems extremely unlikely to land Cabrera on the disabled list. Jarrod Saltalamacchia will take over at first base in place of Cabrera on Tuesday.

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Out of lineup Tuesday

Cabrera (biceps) is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Royals.

The Tigers will go without their best player Tuesday as Cabrera continues to recover from the biceps strain he suffered in Monday's tilt. Jarrod Saltalamacchia is set to take over in place of Cabrera at first base Tuesday. Cabrera's next chance to return to the lineup will come Wednesday, but the team has yet to comment on his availability or timetable.

  • Indians' Michael Brantley: Undergoes successful surgery

Brantley underwent successful shoulder surgery Tuesday and is expected to make a full recovery in four months, MLB.com's Jordan Bastian reports.

Brantley was already ruled out for the season, but this report confirms there were no surprises with his surgery. He faces a lengthy recovery timetable, but if things go as planned, he should be ready to take the field when spring training begins in February.

  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

Tigers' J.D. Martinez: Provides Tigers lone run with homer

Martinez went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in Monday's 3-1 loss to the Royals.

Martinez has hit four of his 16 homers since returning from an elbow injury on Aug. 3. The 28-year-old slugger is starting to regain the form he showed in a 38-homer 2015 campaign, reaching base in 11-of-12 games with eight extra base hits since coming off the Disabled List.

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Diagnosed with bicep strain

Cabrera has been listed as day-to-day with a strained bicep, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

What was initially believed to be a shoulder injury, turned out to be a strained bicep. Cabrera's availability for Detroit's coming games will determined by the severity of the strain, which should be known in the near future. The team considers him day-to-day for now.

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Exits game early with shoulder injury

Cabrera left Monday's game in the top of the fifth inning with a shoulder injury, Mike Mulholland of MLive.com reports.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia went in to replace the 33-year-old slugger after he hurt his shoulder. More information on the status of Cabrera's injury should be known after the game when Detroit's medical staff has a chance to further examine him; however, the team was seen wrapping Cabrera's shoulder after he was pulled from action. Cabrera had been dominant at the plate heading into Monday's contest, posting a .373/.397/.746 line with six home runs over the last 14 games.

  • Ji-Man Choi 1B | NYM

Angels' Ji-Man Choi: Hits fifth homer in Sunday's loss

Choi went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run homer, his fifth of the season, in Sunday's loss to the Indians.

Aside from the occasional power display, Choi hasn't appeared ready for the majors since being called up, hitting .168/.273/.368 through 95 at-bats. The Angels will keep running him out there, but there's little reason for him to be rostered right now in most fantasy leagues.

  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

Tigers' J.D. Martinez: Continues hot hitting Sunday

Martinez went 3-for-5 with a double, a two-run homer and two runs Sunday against the Rangers.

Martinez has been on fire since returning from the disabled list on August 2, as he's collected 17 hits in 40 at-bats with seven extra-base hits and five RBI, and he's now slashing .303/.372/.548 on the year. From a statistical standpoint, the lefty is enjoying the second-best season of his six-year career, and is in position to help fantasy teams make a playoff push.

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Hits 27th homer of campaign Sunday

Cabrera went 1-for-5 with a solo homer Sunday against the Rangers.

Cabrera is on fire this month, as he's collected multiple hits in seven of his 12 games while leaving the yard four times, raising his slash line to .311/.384/.551 on the year. His 27 bombs on the year are the most he's had since hitting 44 in 2013.

Rays' Brad Miller: Blasts two more homers in Saturday loss

The new first baseman continues his incredible tear, touching up Masahiro Tanaka in the fourth and sixth frames. Miller has already racked up five homers in August and is slashing .318/.412/.727 over his first 44 at-bats of the month, with five multi-hit efforts, three doubles and 13 RBI.
