  • AJ Reed DH | HOU

Astros' A.J. Reed: Recalled from minors

Reed was called up from Triple-A Fresno on Thursday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

With Yulieski Gurriel away from the team while awaiting the birth of his child, Reed will step in and provide extra depth at first base in his absence. It seems likely that Reed will be shipped back down to the minors once Gurriel is reinstated from the paternity leave list, but the former has continued to prove his worth at the Triple-A level this season, recording an OPS of .915 with 18 home runs and 67 RBI in 73 games.

  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

    Red Sox's J.D. Martinez: League-leading 25th homer

Martinez went 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk, three RBI and a pair of runs scored in Wednesday's win over the Angels.

Martinez delivered a three-run shot in the second inning, the final blow in the six-run frame. The 30-year-old has been an absolute beast in his first year in Boston, leading the league in both home runs (25) and RBI (64) to go along with a .329/.396/.654 slash line.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Likely to return as DH this year

General manager Billy Eppler said Ohtani is "likely to return as a hitter" no matter what the result of Ohtani's PRP injection is, Jim Duquette of SiriusXM Radio reports.

Eppler added that the Angels chose to go this route because the team still hopes Ohtani will be able to take the mound this season. The GM also stated that more will be known regarding Ohtani's status during Thursday's re-evaluation of his elbow. In the event that Ohtani is forced to require surgery, the organization could elect to delay the procedure until the offseason in order to keep Ohtani's bat in the lineup.

  • Byron Buxton CF | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Remains on disabled list

Buxton (toe) is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the White Sox, according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com, and remains on the disabled list for the time being.

Buxton had a shot to rejoin the Twins on Tuesday, but his rehab assignment will continue for the time being. He is eligible to be activated from the disabled list at any point, and will rejoin the big club when the Twins deem him ready. Just when that will be remains to be seen, as Minnesota likely wants him to get at-bats at the major-league level, but will not be forced to add him back to the roster until July 9.

  • Mark Canha LF | TEX

Athletics' Mark Canha: Draws interest from Boston

The Red Sox have asked about Canha, but were rebuffed by the Athletics, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The Red Sox are poking around for outfield help, given the struggles of Jackie Bradley (.189) this season, and identified Canha as a possible target. There's a chance the two sides could revisit things next month, but the A's are said to be looking for starting pitching, a scarce commodity in Boston's minor-league system.

  • Eloy Jimenez DH | TOR

White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Launches first homer at Triple-A

Jimenez went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI for Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday.

This was Jimenez's first homer since he was promoted to the Knights last week. He's gone 4-for-13 with three walks in four games since joining Charlotte. Before his promotion, Jimenez cracked 10 home runs over 53 games for Double-A Birmingham.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Monster day at dish

Stanton went 5-for-5 with a home run, two runs, two RBI and a walk in Sunday's game against the Rays.

This huge day at the plate upped his average from .249 to .262 on the season. Stanton has seven home runs but just 13 RBI in 81 at-bats this month.

  • Mark Canha LF | TEX

Athletics' Mark Canha: Launches 10th homer

Canha went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, a sac fly and a walk in Sunday's 10-3 loss to the White Sox.

Canha brought in Matt Olson with the sac fly in the second before drilling a shot off Carlos Rodon in the fifth. The California native is slashing .253/.325/.468 with 27 RBI and 21 extra-base hits in 190 at-bats.

  • Byron Buxton CF | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Could return Tuesday

Buxton (toe) could rejoin the Twins on Tuesday, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

The Twins are keeping this one close to the vest, as manager Paul Molitor wouldn't say whether Buxton could be an option to rejoin the active roster after outfielder Ryan LaMarre was optioned to Triple-A Rochester following Sunday's game. Unfortunately the Twins have an off-day Monday, so fantasy owners may not know for sure if Buxton will be back until after lineups lock in certain formats. Rochester, where Buxton is rehabbing, plays a doubleheader at Syracuse on Monday. Buxton is hitting just .167/.250/.333 with one home run, two steals and seven strikeouts in 18 at-bats so far during his rehab assignment.

  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

Red Sox's J.D. Martinez: Drives in five Friday

Martinez went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, three runs scored and five RBI in Friday's 14-10 win over the Mariners.

He now has 23 homers on the year, including five in June to go along with a .343 (24-for-70) batting average through 19 games on the month. As expected, Martinez is thriving in the heart of a Red Sox offense that is among the most dangerous in the league, and the 30-year-old only needs to stay healthy to top last year's career-high 45 home runs and 104 RBI.
