  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

    Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Sitting Tuesday

Ohtani will sit Tuesday against lefty Mike Minor and the Rangers.

Ohtani has a perfectly respectable 102 career wRC+ against southpaws, though that's nowhere close to his 169 mark against righties, so it makes sense for his off days to come with lefties on the mound. Mike Trout will rest his legs as the designated hitter Tuesday, with Brian Goodwin starting in center field.

  • Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU

Astros' Yordan Alvarez: No spot in NL park

Alvarez is not starting Tuesday in Colorado, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Alvarez can't fill his usual designated hitter spot in the National League venue, and he's not expected to play the field at any point during the two-game series, as manager AJ Hinch previously indicated. Alvarez has started four games in left field this season, but a pair of off days likely won't hurt him after he missed time late last week with knee discomfort.

  • AJ Reed DH | HOU

Astros' AJ Reed: Removed from 40-man roster

Reed was designated for assignment by the Astros on Tuesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Once a very highly-rated prospect, the 26-year-old owns an ugly .153/.253/.244 slash line in 48 career big-league games. Only three of those games have come in the last three seasons. Another organization could take a chance on Reed in hopes that he could recapture some of what made him an exciting prospect years ago, but his 90 wRC+ for Triple-A Round Rock this year certainly doesn't help his case. He'll make way on the 40-man roster for Jose Urquidy, whose contract was selected in a corresponding move.

  • Mike Ford DH | MIN

Yankees' Mike Ford: Gets call to majors

The Yankees recalled Ford from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday.

Ford will make his second sojourn to the big leagues this season while the Yankees wait for Luke Voit (abdomen) to return from the 10-day injured list. Though Voit's shutdown opens up first base on a regular basis, the Yankees are expected to get by with either Edwin Encarnacion or DJ LeMahieu as their primary option at the position in the interim. As a result, Ford projects to see limited usage as a bench bat and occasional starter during his latest stint in New York.

  • Ji-Man Choi 1B | NYM

Rays' Ji-Man Choi: On base throughout win

Choi went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI singles, a walk and a run in a win over the Orioles on Monday.

Choi, along with Kevin Kiermaier and Avisail Garcia, proved to be a constant thorn in the side of Orioles pitching from the heart of the order. The 28-year-old South Korean snapped out of a modest funk at the plate with Monday's multi-hit effort, his first since June 14. Choi had gone 2-for-15 over the last five games of June.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Not starting Monday

Ohtani is out of the lineup for Monday's game at Texas.

Ohtani started the last six games after essentially sitting out a series in a National League park and went 10-for-22 with three homers in that stretch. The Rangers have left-hander Mike Minor on the mound Monday, so the Angels decided it's a good time for an off day. Mike Trout will serve as the designated hitter while Brian Goodwin starts in center field.

  • Jorge Soler DH | LAA

Royals' Jorge Soler: Breaks out of slump with homer

Soler went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and a walk Sunday in the Royals' 7-6 win over the Blue Jays.

Soler's fifth-inning solo shot off Nick Kingham ended a frustrating stretch for the slugger, who had gone 1-for-27 with 13 strikeouts over the preceding seven games. The slump has resulted in Soler's season average plunging to .233, but that's a fair price for fantasy managers to pay in light of the career-best power production the 27-year-old has supplied. The home run was his 22nd of the season, exceeding his previous career high by 10 with 78 games left to play. He'll be back in the lineup for Monday's series finale as the Royals' designated hitter and No. 5 batter, per Joel Goldberg of FOX Sports Kansas City.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Launches two solo homers

Ohtani went 2-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs during Sunday's 12-3 win over the Athletics.

Ohtani made the most of his two hits, which consisted of solo home runs to center field in the fourth and eighth innings. The slugger has been in particularly good form of late, with a .478 average, three home runs, five runs scored, and five RBI over his last seven games. Ohtani will look to keep it up in his next series on the road against Texas.

  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

Red Sox's J.D. Martinez: Records another three-hit game

Martinez went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs in a 12-8 loss to the Yankees on Sunday.

The designated hitter was part of a three-homer barrage during the first inning for the Red Sox, but that didn't hold up, as again the Yankees reached double digits in runs. Martinez enjoyed hitting in London, going 6-for-9 in the two-game European set. He is batting .298 with 18 home runs, 47 RBI, 49 runs and one stolen base in 295 at-bats this season.

  • Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU

Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Knocks in three

Alvarez went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBI and a walk in Sunday's win over the Mariners.

Alvarez doubled home a pair of runs in the first inning, and he collected his third RBI of the afternoon in the third on a single to right field. The 22-year-old has been impressive in his first 16 big-league contests, hitting .317 with seven homers and 21 RBI, though the Astros appear likely to hold him out of the next two contests in Colorado without a designated hitter slot available.
