Rays' Ji-Man Choi: Activated, on bench

Choi was activated from the injured list Saturday, but he is not in the starting lineup, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Choi will be activated from the injured list for the first time this season, though he'll have to wait for his first start. That is likely to come Sunday with right-hander Marcus Stroman projected to be on the mound for the Mets. Yandy Diaz is starting at first base and batting third for the Rays on Saturday.

Rays' Ji-Man Choi: Closing in on return

Choi (knee) is feeling better and is close to returning, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Choi has been sidelined for the entire season after undergoing a knee scope in late March. He's continued to deal with soreness while rehabbing, but he has apparently made enough progress that his return is now imminent.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Launches 11th homer

Ohtani went 2-for-4 with a double and a solo home run in Friday's 4-3 loss to the Red Sox.

He produced the Angels' first run in the top of the sixth inning as he swatted a Nick Pivetta offering over the Green Monster. Ohtani has slowed down somewhat at the plate, going 11-for-48 (.229) through 12 games in May, but he's still launched three of his 11 homers on the year during that stretch.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Could miss 'couple of days'

Manager Aaron Boone said after Friday's game that Stanton (quad) could be "down a couple of days," but Boone isn't concerned about it being anything long-term, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

Stanton was scratched from Friday's lineup with left quad tightness, which Stanton felt during an at-bat in Thursday's series finale in Tampa Bay and again during warmups Friday, Marly Rivera of ESPN.com notes. It sounds like Stanton will need at least one more day, and with Aaron Hicks (wrist) also injured, the Yankees may need to make a roster move to add an outfielder ahead of Saturday's game.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Start pushed back due to fatigue

Ohtani's next start has been pushed back due to fatigue, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

The Angels have allowed Ohtani to take on as heavy a workload as he can on both sides of the ball this year, though that's required frequent minor adjustments to his schedule. He's reportedly not injured but will need a bit more time before he's ready to return to the mound. He won't start Tuesday against Cleveland as previously scheduled but should be on the mound somewhere between Wednesday and Friday next week.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Scratched with quad tightness

Stanton was scratched from the lineup for Friday's game against the Orioles with left quadriceps tightness.

Stanton has had mostly good luck on the injury front so far this season, but this quad issue will cost him at least one start. Gary Sanchez will DH and bat cleanup against righty Dean Kremer.

  • Mark Canha LF | TEX

Athletics' Mark Canha: Takes seat Friday

Canha is not in the lineup Friday at Minnesota.

Canha started the past 19 games and will receive a day to reset after posting a .678 OPS during that stretch. Seth Brown and Stephen Piscotty will start in the corner outfield spots Friday for the A's.

  • Franmil Reyes DH | WAS

Indians' Franmil Reyes: Ninth homer contributes to win

Reyes went 1-for-4 with a home run and two strikeouts as Cleveland beat Seattle, 4-2 on Thursday.

Reyes opened the scoring with his second-inning solo shot but didn't do anything else of note on the evening. Reyes and his .265/.320/.581 slash line have been key contributors to Cleveland's shallow lineup devoid of impact bats aside from Jose Ramirez and Josh Naylor.

  • Miguel Cabrera DH | DET

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Two more hits Thursday

Cabrera went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Thursday's win over the Royals.

While Cabrera's batting average is still an unsightly .179, the veteran now has four multi-hit performances in his past five games. All of the hits have been singles, so Cabrera isn't really driving the ball, but just getting on base consistently is a step forward.

  • Ji-Man Choi 1B | NYM

Rays' Ji-Man Choi: Knee still feeling sore

Manager Kevin Cash said Thursday that Choi is "not quite ready" to return from the 10-day injured list while he continues to manage soreness in his surgically repaired right knee, but the Rays remain hopeful that he won't require another rehab stint at Triple-A Durham, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

After being pulled off his rehab assignment Wednesday, Choi rejoined the Rays to receive further treatment. While Choi was able to take part in batting practice Thursday, the Rays will continue to evaluate him on a day-to-day basis before the team determines his next step. Choi should factor into the mix at first base or designated hitter whenever he's ultimately activated.
