  • Mark Canha LF | TEX

Athletics' Mark Canha: Clubs 15th homer

Canha went 1-for-4 with a walk, a two-run home run and a second run scored in Friday's 11-10 loss to the Blue Jays.

He took Jordan Romano deep in the ninth inning, seemingly bailing out the A's after the bullpen squandered an 8-2 lead in the eighth inning and let the Jays tie it up, but then Sergio Romo served up a walkoff shot to Marcus Semien in the ninth. Canha has gone yard three times in the last four contests to help extend his hitting streak to seven games, but despite the hot stretch he's still batting only .237 on the season with 15 homers, 12 steals, 49 RBI and 79 runs through 514 plate appearances.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Plays hero in win

Stanton went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and a walkoff single in Friday's 4-3 extra-innings win over Baltimore.

The 31-year-old opened the scoring for the Yankees in the fourth inning. Stanton then knocked in initial runner Aaron Judge with a single in the 11th. With multiple hits in six of his last 10 games, including six homers, Stanton is crushing it at the plate. He's posted a .273/.365/.502 slash line with 26 long balls, 73 RBI and 53 runs scored across 468 plate appearances overall.

  • Kyle Lewis DH | ARI

    Mariners' Kyle Lewis: Suffers setback

Lewis recently experienced knee soreness and won't begin a rehab assignment in the near future, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Lewis resumed running the bases early in the week but felt sore after going through a more comprehensive workout. The Mariners are hoping the 26-year-old will be able to return before the end of the season, but they'll likely exercise caution to prevent a more serious injury.

  • Harold Ramirez DH | WAS

Indians' Harold Ramirez: Not starting Friday

Ramirez is out of the lineup Friday against the Red Sox.

Ramirez was activated from the 10-day injured list Wednesday and started the past two games, but he'll receive a day off after going 3-for-8 with a double and two runs scored. Oscar Mercado will start in left field and bat sixth for Cleveland.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Returns to lineup

Stanton is back in the lineup Friday against the Orioles.

The slugger got a day off Wednesday but will bat fourth Friday against Orioles ace John Means. Stanton has been red-hot and batted .327 with nine homers and 25 RBI in the month of August.

  • Brent Rooker DH | ATH

    Twins' Brent Rooker: Sitting Friday

Rooker is not in the lineup for Friday's series opener against the Rays.

Rooker singled twice and was hit by a pitch Wednesday, increasing his average to .217 in his last 10 games. Nick Gordon is playing center field and batting seventh Friday.

  • Mark Canha LF | TEX

Athletics' Mark Canha: Homers in win

Canha went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, two walks and another run scored during Thursday's win over the Tigers.

Since losing his leadoff spot in the batting order Friday, Canha has begun heating up, collecting six hits in consecutive games, including two homers in that span. The 32-year-old was hitting sixth this time around. Overall this season, Canha has 14 homers to his name along with a .236/.363/.402 slash line.

  • Miguel Cabrera DH | DET

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: On bench Thursday

Cabrera isn't starting Thursday's game against the Athletics.

Cabrera went 2-for-4 with three RBI while blasting his 15th home run of the season Wednesday. Jeimer Candelario will serve as the designated hitter while Harold Castro enters the lineup at third base.

  • Miguel Cabrera DH | DET

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Launches 15th home run

Cabrera went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and three total RBI in Wednesday's win over the Athletics.

Cabrera hit his milestone 500th career home run Aug. 22 but is still looking to finish his 17th MLB season with a few more long balls. The veteran is up to 15 for the season and 502 in his career. Cabrera can now set his sights on moving up the list of career home-run leaders, as he's sitting in 28th place but is just two behind Eddie Murray in 27th. The Tigers figure to keep giving the 38-year-old opportunities to chase history down the stretch.

  • Ji-Man Choi 1B | NYM

Rays' Ji-Man Choi: Nearing rehab assignment

Choi (hamstring) could begin a rehab assignment with the rookie-level Florida Coast League affiliate Thursday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Choi felt good after fielding grounders Tuesday, and he'll test his hamstring during pregame workouts again Wednesday. Although it's encouraging that he's on track to return to game action Thursday, he'll likely require a lengthy rehab assignment since manager Kevin Cash said Tuesday that the 30-year-old isn't close to being activated.
