Indians' Harold Ramirez: On bench Sunday

Ramirez is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers.

Barring an appearance off the bench, Ramirez finishes 2021 with a .268/.305/.398 slash line in 361 plate appearances. Oscar Mercado is starting in left field Sunday.

  • Miguel Cabrera DH | DET

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: On bench Sunday

Cabrera is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox.

Three straight hitless performances, including a four-strikeout showing Friday, lowered Cabrera's season-long average to .256. Niko Goodrum is the designated hitter for Sunday's regular-season finale.

  • Mark Canha LF | TEX

Athletics' Mark Canha: Gets breather Saturday

Canha isn't starting Saturday's game against Houston, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Canha will get a rare day off after he went hitless with two strikeouts in four at-bats during Friday's series opener. Chad Pinder will take over in right field while Pete Kozma starts at shortstop.

  • Luis Torrens DH | NYM

Mariners' Luis Torrens: Laces second three-bagger

Torrens went 1-for-4 with a triple in a loss to the Angels on Friday.

Torrens reached safely for the third time in the last four games with his second triple of the season, which was one of the few offensive bright spots for the Mariners in the disappointing loss. Torrens is wrapping up the regular season in fine fashion at the plate, as he's hit .354 (23-for-65) with three doubles, Friday's three-bagger, a home run, eight RBI, two walks and eight runs across his last 22 games.

  • Ji-Man Choi 1B | NYM

Rays' Ji-Man Choi: On bench Saturday

Choi isn't starting Saturday's game against the Yankees, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

Choi started against a southpaw in Friday's series opener, but he'll take a seat with left-hander Jordan Montgomery on the mound Saturday. Francisco Mejia will start at first base and bat ninth.

  • Byron Buxton DH | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Doubles twice in loss

Buxton went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored in Friday's 11-6 loss to Kansas City.

Buxton doubled and scored in both the fourth and sixth innings Friday. Over the last 10 games, the 27-year-old outfielder has gone 15-for-35 (.429) with nine extra-base hits and 13 runs scored. He boosted his season slash line to .305/.359/.637 with 47 runs scored and 39 extra-base hits through 245 plate appearances.

  • Franmil Reyes DH | WAS

Indians' Franmil Reyes: Sits again Friday

Reyes will sit Friday against Texas.

Reyes finds himself on the bench for the second straight game. Harold Ramirez will make another start as the designated hitter.

  • Astros' Michael Brantley: On bench Friday

Brantley will sit Friday against Oakland, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Brantley hasn't taken the field since Sept. 11 after injuring his knee, but he's played the last two games as a designated hitter. He'll get a full day off Friday, with Chas McCormick starting in that spot. Per Brian McTaggart of MLB.com, Brantley will test his knee Friday and could play in the outfielder over the weekend.

  • Byron Buxton DH | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Launches two homers

Buxton went 3-for-5 with two solo home runs, a double, and an additional run scored in Thursday's loss against Detroit.

Buxton extended his hitting streak to four games, and he has recorded at least one knock in 11 of his last 12 contests. The star outfielder has four homers during that span, and he's ending the season on a strong note, hitting .263 with a .912 OPS across 26 games (107 plate appearances) in September.

  • Astros' Michael Brantley: Serves as DH again

Brantley started at designated hitter and went 1-for-3 in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Rays.

Brantley made his second consecutive start at DH after being reinstated from the injury list. The outfielder is dealing with a sore knee and is limited to DH duties for now. Thursday's win clinched the division for the Astros, so regulars may be given rest over the final three-game series against Oakland, but that may not be the case for Brantley. He missed more than two weeks while on the IL and could use the at-bats to get his timing down ahead of the postseason.
