Rangers' Brad Miller: Dealing with hip discomfort
Miller is dealing with right hip discomfort and could require a trip to the injured list, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports.
This explains why Miller has not seen game action since Aug. 31. Even once he is ready to return, the Rangers will likely spread out the playing time in order to develop their younger players.

Giancarlo Stanton DH | NYY
Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Exits with injury
Stanton was removed from Monday's game against the Twins in the bottom of the eighth inning due to a foot/ankle injury, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.
Stanton fouled a ball off the top of his foot/ankle in the bottom of the sixth inning and initially remained in the game, but he was replaced by a pinch hitter in the bottom of the eighth. He underwent X-rays that came back negative, so he should tentatively be considered day-to-day.

J.D. Martinez DH | NYM
Red Sox's J.D. Martinez: Sitting for second straight day
Martinez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora provided no indication that Martinez's absence from the lineup in Sunday's 5-2 win against the Rangers was injury-related, but the fact that the 35-year-old is now on the bench for a second day in a row suggests that a physical issue could be in play. An explanation behind Martinez's back-to-back days off could come later Monday, but Tommy Pham will get another turn as Boston's designated hitter in his stead in any event.

Ji-Man Choi 1B | NYM
Rays' Ji-Man Choi: Loses hold of platoon role
Choi is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
The lefty-hitting Choi is sitting against a right-handed starting pitcher (Michael Wacha) for the third time in five matchups, signaling that he no longer has a hold on a strong-side platoon role. Harold Ramirez and Isaac Paredes should continue to cut into his opportunities to face right-handed pitching while Choi is holding down a lowly .391 OPS since the All-Star break.

Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Drives in two in return
Alvarez went 1-for-4 with a walk and two RBI in Sunday's 9-1 over the Angels.

Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD
Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Receives Sunday off
Ohtani is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
Ohtani allowed one run over eight innings on the mound and went 0-for-4 with a walk Saturday against the Astros, and he'll receive a rest day for the series finale. Mike Trout will rest his legs as the designated hitter while Ryan Aguilar makes a start in center field.

Harold Ramirez DH | WAS
Rays' Harold Ramirez: Heads to bench Sunday
Ramirez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

David Peralta will step in as the Rays' designated hitter Sunday in place of Ramirez, who started in each of the previous 14 contests while slashing .339/.333/.403 with 12 RBI and eight runs over that stretch.
