Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU
Astros' Yordan Alvarez: In midst of cold spell
Alvarez went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in Tuesday's 7-5 win over the Rangers.
Though Alvarez hasn't reported any renewed soreness in his hand after he required a stint on the injured list shortly before the All-Star break, the slugger has nonetheless seen his production taper off of late. While starting in each of Houston's last 10 games, Alvarez has hit .139 with one extra-base hit (a double) and 5:9 BB:K. The Astros will continue to let Alvarez work through his struggles, as he'll stick in the lineup Wednesday as the team's designated hitter and No. 3 batter.

Kyle Lewis DH | ARI
Mariners' Kyle Lewis: Bound for Triple-A
The Mariners optioned Lewis to Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday.
Lewis will surrender his spot on the 26-man active roster to Dylan Moore (back), who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list and offers more versatility off the bench due to his ability to play both the infield and outfield. Upon returning from a stint on the 7-day concussion IL on July 22, Lewis managed just four hits in 41 at-bats (.098 average) with the Mariners while striking out at a 39.1 percent clip. Lewis had already moved into a bench role last weekend, when Mitch Haniger came off the IL and replaced him as a lineup regular.

Jesse Winker DH | NYM
Mariners' Jesse Winker: Remains out of lineup
Winker (back) isn't starting Wednesday against the Yankees.
Winker is out of the lineup for a second consecutive matchup as he continues to deal with back spasms. He remains day-to-day for now, but Sam Haggerty will shift to left field while Jarred Kelenic starts in center.

Harold Ramirez DH | WAS
Rays' Harold Ramirez: Could soon take BP
Ramirez (thumb) could be cleared to take live batting practice as soon as Friday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Both Ramirez and Wander Franco (wrist) seem to be at similar points in their recoveries from injuries, as the two have both been cleared to take dry swings and could be ready to take another meaningful step forward this weekend. Ramirez, who has been sidelined since the All-Star break with a fractured right thumb, should have an everyday role waiting for him either at designated hitter or in the corner outfield once he's ready to come off the 10-day injured list. He was hitting .329 with four home runs, three steals, 35 RBI and 31 runs in 78 games prior to being deactivated.

Ji-Man Choi 1B | NYM
Rays' Ji-Man Choi: Not starting Wednesday
Choi isn't starting Wednesday against the Brewers, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Even with right-hander Brandon Woodruff on the mound for Milwaukee on Wednesday, Choi will retreat to the bench after he went 2-for-13 with a run, four walks and five strikeouts over the last five games. Yandy Diaz is serving as the designated hitter while Isaac Paredes starts at first base.

Byron Buxton DH | MIN
Twins' Byron Buxton: Crushes two-run homer
Buxton went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in a 10-3 loss to the Dodgers on Tuesday.
Buxton singled in the sixth inning and took reliever Phil Bickford deep to left in the eighth for his fourth long ball of the second half. The performance improved his slash line to .222/.301/.549, though the bigger story is that the 28-year-old started again at DH despite a couple of recent off days. Minnesota is taking a cautious approach with its injury-prone star; Buxton (undisclosed) hasn't played the field since July 31 aside from one inning Sunday.

Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD
Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Two-way show on full display
Ohtani (10-7) pitched six scoreless innings in a win over the Athletics on Tuesday. He allowed four hits and three walks while striking out five, and he went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and two total runs scored at the plate.
Ohtani's combined batting and pitching lines produced something not seen in 50 years in the American League, ESPN reports. It was a welcome return to dominance for the right-hander -- he had allowed 11 runs (10 earned) across 18 innings in his last three starts, all losses. He lowered his ERA to 2.68 with a 1.05 WHIP and 157:27 K:BB through 111 innings across 19 starts, and he's up to 25 homers, 66 RBI, 62 runs scored and 11 stolen bases through 460 plate appearances. Ohtani's next projected start on the mound is lined up for a home start versus the Mariners next week.

Jesse Winker DH | NYM
Mariners' Jesse Winker: Held out Tuesday
Winker (back) is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Yankees, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Winker was lifted from Monday's contest due to back spasms and will be out of the starting nine for at least one game. It's unclear if the 28-year-old will be available off the bench, and he should be considered day-to-day until the team updates his status. Jake Lamb will start in left field and bat cleanup.

Matt Carpenter DH | STL
Yankees' Matt Carpenter: Sent to injured list
The Yankees placed Carpenter (foot) on the 10-day injured list Tuesday.
Carpenter's move to the IL was a foregone conclusion after the Yankees announced he suffered a fractured left foot in Monday's win over the Mariners. A timeline hasn't yet been established for Carpenter's return and will likely be contingent on whether he needs to undergo surgery to address the injury. Regardless, Carpenter looks to be at risk of missing most, if not all, of what's left of the 2022 season, making him a drop candidate in leagues where he's been rostered. Miguel Andujar was called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to replace Carpenter, who has hit .305 with 15 home runs, 37 RBI and 28 runs in 47 games after joining the Yankees in late May.

Giancarlo Stanton DH | NYY
Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Resumes baseball activities
Stanton (Achilles) has resumed baseball activities, but a timeline for his return remains undetermined, Meredith Marakovits of the YES Network reports.
Stanton is eligible to return from the IL, but it doesn't appear that he'll rejoin the Yankees immediately. The slugger hasn't played since July 23, so he may need a minor-league rehab stint if he doesn't return soon. Yankees manager Aaron Boone recently said that Stanton is "feeling good" and that he "continues to improve," per MLB.com.
