Jesse Winker DH | NYM
Mariners' Jesse Winker: Experiencing back spasms
Winker left Monday's game against the Yankees due to back spasms, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. He struck out in both of his plate appearances before departing.
Winker will likely be re-evaluated Tuesday to determine his availability moving forward. Jake Lamb and Kyle Lewis would be the primary candidates to pick up playing time in place of Winker in the short term, though Sam Haggerty would likely be the frontrunner to serve as Seattle's top left fielder if Winker requires a stint on the injured list and if Julio Rodriguez (wrist) is activated from the IL on Wednesday or Friday, as is anticipated.

Matt Carpenter DH | STL
Yankees' Matt Carpenter: Fractures foot, out indefinitely
Carpenter was diagnosed with a broken left foot after leaving Monday's game against Seattle, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
The injury is a devastating one for Carpenter, who had enjoyed a resurgence since joining the Yankees in late May while emerging as one of the team's top hitters. The Yankees likely won't have a timeline for Carpenter's return until a determination is made on whether or not he'll need surgery, but even if he's able to treat the fractured foot through rest and rehab, a trip to the injured list is all but guaranteed at this point.

Jesse Winker DH | NYM
Mariners' Jesse Winker: Leaves game early
Winker was removed from Monday's game against the Yankees with an apparent back injury, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
The television crew caught Winker exiting the field during pitching change and mouthing the words "my back," but the team has yet to confirm the location of the injury. He'll be considered day-to-day until more information comes to light.

Matt Carpenter DH | STL
Yankees' Matt Carpenter: Exits game early
Carpenter was removed from Monday's game against the Mariners due to an apparent foot injury, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Carpenter fouled a ball off his back foot during his first at-bat of the game, and while he was able to remain int he contest temporarily, Tim Locastro was tapped to pinch hit in the top of the third. Carpenter will be considered day-to-day until further notice.

Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD
Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Gets day off
Ohtani isn't in the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Athletics, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
Fletcher notes that this is simply a scheduled off day for the two-way star. Max Stassi will get a chance to serve as the designated hitter and Kurt Suzuki will handle the catching duties in Ohtani's absence.

Michael Brantley LF | HOU
Astros' Michael Brantley: Status uncertain for rest of season
Astros general manager James Click wouldn't commit Sunday to Brantley (shoulder) being able to return from the 10-day injured list before the end of the season, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports. "We hope [Brantley will return in 2022], but with every passing day, you have to kind of take an honest look at it," Click said.
Click added that he had "no update" on Brantley's status while the 35-year-old hasn't yet been cleared to swing a bat since mid-July, a couple weeks after he initially landed on the IL. Though the end of the regular season is just under two months away, Brantley will likely still need to make some meaningful progress over the next couple of weeks for the Astros to feel more confident about his chances of playing again in 2022. In the meantime, the Astros will lean on a combination of Trey Mancini, Aledmys Diaz, Chas McCormick and Mauricio Dubon to replace Brantley in the everyday lineup.

Jesse Winker DH | NYM
Mariners' Jesse Winker: Hits grand slam in win
Winker went 1-for-3 with a grand slam and a walk in Sunday's 6-3 win over the Angels.
Winker's third-inning blast off Angels starter Tucker Davidson gave the Mariners enough offense for the win. Across his last seven games, Winker has gone 6-for-20 (.300) with three homers, seven RBI and six runs scored. He should still see a majority of the playing time in left field, but the return of Mitch Haniger on Saturday and the expected activation of Julio Rodriguez (wrist) from the injured list this coming week could see Winker receive more days off. The 28-year-old outfielder has a .230/.349/.365 slash line with 11 homers, 41 RBI and 36 runs scored through 100 contests.

Kyle Lewis DH | ARI
Mariners' Kyle Lewis: Losing playing time
Lewis is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.
Lewis is on the bench for the third time in four games, with his downturn in opportunities coinciding with Mitch Haniger's return from the 60-day injured list Saturday. With Haniger expected to settle into a regular role in either right field or at designated hitter, Lewis and Carlos Santana could have to vie for one spot in Seattle's everyday lineup moving forward. Santana would seem to have the upper hand on playing time over Lewis, who is 4-for-40 with 17 strikeouts in 13 games since returning following the All-Star break from his own extended stay on the IL.

Brad Miller DH | SD
Rangers' Brad Miller: Settles into reserve role
Miller is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox.
After returning from the injured list in Friday's 2-1 loss while going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts, Miller looks like he'll serve as a bench bat for the Rangers moving forward. The lefty-hitting veteran will take a seat for the second straight game in the series with the White Sox, with both of his absences coming against right-handed starting pitchers (Michael Kopech and Lucas Giolito).

Luis Torrens DH | NYM
Mariners' Luis Torrens: Slugs first homer
Torrens went 2-for-4 with a solo home run during a loss to the Angels in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday.
The veteran squared up for a 405-foot shot to right field off Reid Detmers in the fifth inning, his first home run since Sept. 23 of last season. Torrens' multi-hit effort was also his first since June 10, as he's spent time on the injured list with a shoulder issue and also lost out on plenty of playing time to Cal Raleigh behind the dish since then.
