Mariners' Jesse Winker: Takes seat Monday
Winker isn't starting Monday against the White Sox.

J.D. Martinez DH | NYM
Red Sox's J.D. Martinez: Sitting for second straight day
Martinez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora provided no indication that Martinez's absence from the lineup in Sunday's 5-2 win against the Rangers was injury-related, but the fact that the 35-year-old is now on the bench for a second day in a row suggests that a physical issue could be in play. An explanation behind Martinez's back-to-back days off could come later Monday, but Tommy Pham will get another turn as Boston's designated hitter in his stead in any event.

Ji-Man Choi 1B | NYM
Rays' Ji-Man Choi: Loses hold of platoon role
Choi is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
The lefty-hitting Choi is sitting against a right-handed starting pitcher (Michael Wacha) for the third time in five matchups, signaling that he no longer has a hold on a strong-side platoon role. Harold Ramirez and Isaac Paredes should continue to cut into his opportunities to face right-handed pitching while Choi is holding down a lowly .391 OPS since the All-Star break.

Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU
Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Drives in two in return
Alvarez went 1-for-4 with a walk and two RBI in Sunday's 9-1 over the Angels.
Alvarez returned to the lineup for the first time in the last five games due to a hand injury. He made the most of his one knock, driving in a pair on a single in the ninth inning. Despite battling some nagging injuries, Alvarez has maintained a .416 wOBA and 178 wRC+ across 457 plate appearances for the season.

Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD
Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Receives Sunday off
Ohtani is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
Ohtani allowed one run over eight innings on the mound and went 0-for-4 with a walk Saturday against the Astros, and he'll receive a rest day for the series finale. Mike Trout will rest his legs as the designated hitter while Ryan Aguilar makes a start in center field.

Harold Ramirez DH | WAS
Rays' Harold Ramirez: Heads to bench Sunday
Ramirez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Ramirez looks to be receiving some routine maintenance after he saw a four-game multi-hit streak come to an end when he went 0-for-4 in Saturday's 2-1 win. David Peralta will step in as the Rays' designated hitter Sunday in place of Ramirez, who started in each of the previous 14 contests while slashing .339/.333/.403 with 12 RBI and eight runs over that stretch.

Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU
Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Rejoins lineup Sunday
Alvarez (hand) is starting in left field and batting third Sunday against the Angels, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Alvarez hasn't seen the field since Aug. 27 due to hand soreness, but he'll return to action in Sunday's series finale versus the Halos. The 25-year-old struggled while playing through the injury in August and had a .234/.326/.312 slash line with one home run, three doubles, 10 RBI and 11 runs in 23 games.

J.D. Martinez DH | NYM
Red Sox's J.D. Martinez: Steps out of lineup Sunday
Martinez is not in the lineup Sunday against the Rangers, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.
Martinez started the last 14 games and will receive a day off after he posted a .276/.323/.431 slash line with two home runs, five RBI and six runs during that span. Tommy Pham will serve as the designated hitter while Franchy Cordero starts in left field.

Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD
Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Settles for no-decision
Ohtani pitched eight innings against Houston on Saturday, allowing one run on six hits and no walks while striking out five batters. He did not factor in the decision.
Though Ohtani wasn't overpowering in the start, he held the Astros to a single run over eight standout frames. It was just the second time the All-Star hurler has completed eight innings this season, and his 111 pitches were the third-most he has thrown in a contest in his career, per indpendent baseball writer Taylor Blake Ward. Ohtani has bounced back from a poor start against Detroit on Aug. 21 with 15 innings of one-run ball over his past two outings.

Eloy Jimenez DH | TOR
White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Homers in return
Jimenez (leg) went 1-for-2 with a three-run home run and a walk in Saturday's 13-0 win over the Twins.
Jimenez missed a game with right leg soreness, so he served as the designated hitter Saturday. He made an early impact with his first-inning homer, and the White Sox never looked back in a dominant win. The 25-year-old has gone deep three times in his last 10 games, giving him nine long balls this year. He's added a .303/.373/.472 slash line with 33 RBI, 23 runs scored and six doubles through 58 contests, though staying healthy for an extended time has been a problem for Jimenez this year.
