  • Giants' Patrick Bailey: Sitting Wednesday

Bailey isn't starting Wednesday against the Padres, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Bailey is 3-for-12 with three RBI across his last three games and will take a seat Wednesday. Blake Sabol will take over behind the dish and bat sixth.

  • Angels' Logan O'Hoppe: Begins light activity

O'Hoppe (shoulder) played light catch Wednesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

O'Hoppe said in April that he hopes to return to the field before the end of the season, and this appears to be a step toward that goal. It should be noted, however, that O'Hoppe injured his non-throwing shoulder and also wasn't catching the return throws Wednesday, so clearly he still has a long way to go in his recovery process.

  • Sandy Leon C | ATL

    Sandy Leon: Released by Texas

Leon was released by the Rangers on Wednesday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Having been outrighted to Triple-A Round Rock earlier this month, Leon requested his release and it was ultimately granted. The veteran catcher slashed just .146/.186/.195 in 21 games (44 plate appearances) this year for Texas prior to losing his 40-man roster spot.

  • Mitch Garver C | SEA

Rangers' Mitch Garver: Sits down Wednesday

Garver isn't in the Rangers' lineup Wednesday against the White Sox.

Garver is 4-for-20 with three RBI and two runs scored over his last five contests and will catch a day off Wednesday. Ezequiel Duran will serve as Texas' designated hitter in Garver's place, allowing Travis Jankowski to start in left field while batting eighth.

  • Matt Thaiss C | BOS

    Angels' Matt Thaiss: Sitting Wednesday

Thaiss isn't in the Angels' lineup Wednesday against the Dodgers, Sarah Valenzuela of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Wednesday will mark the third consecutive game Thaiss begins in the dugout as he is hitless (0-for-8) across his last three contests. Chad Wallach will start behind the dish instead and bat seventh.

  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

Braves' Sean Murphy: Hamstring issue improving

Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said Murphy (hamstring) felt better after running Wednesday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Murphy is out of the starting lineup again Wednesday versus the Phillies as he nurses a tweaked right hamstring, but it sounds like the 28-year-old catcher could potentially return for Thursday's series finale. He boasts a .919 OPS with 12 home runs, 14 doubles and 42 RBI through 57 games this season with the current NL East leaders.

  • Connor Wong C | BOS

Red Sox's Connor Wong: Resting Wednesday

Wong is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

After starting at catcher in both of first two games of the series with Minnesota and going 3-for-8 with a double, two walks, two runs and an RBI, Wong will take a seat Wednesday. He'll give way to Reese McGuire, who will form a battery with starting pitcher Garrett Whitlock.

  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

Yankees' Jose Trevino: Not in lineup Wednesday

Trevino is absent from the lineup Wednesday versus the Mariners.

Kyle Higashioka will start behind the plate and bat eighth. Neither catcher has offered significant offensive production for the Yankees here in 2023.

  • Twins' Mark Kolozsvary: Signs MiLB deal

Minnesota signed Kolozsvary to a minor-league contract Wednesday, Darren Wolfson of Channel 5 Saint Paul reports.

Kolozsvary declined his outright assignment to Triple-A Norfolk last week, and the 27-year-old backstop will instead head to Triple-A St. Paul to provide organizational depth behind the plate for Minnesota. The Twins would need to add him to the 40-man roster if they deem him worthy of a promotion.

  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

Braves' Sean Murphy: Remains out Wednesday

Murphy (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup versus the Phillies on Wednesday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Murphy will miss at least one more game after he injured his right hamstring Saturday against the Rockies. Travis d'Arnaud will be the starting backstop for Atlanta on Wednesday and hit sixth.
