  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Out with head injury

Perez (head) is not in the lineup Sunday against the Astros.

Perez was lifted from Saturday's game versus Houston after taking a foul ball to the face in the fifth inning, but he has been cleared of a concussion and is considered day-to-day. Logan Porter will do the catching for the Royals on Sunday afternoon.

  • Rene Pinto C | PHI

Rays' Rene Pinto: Out of lineup Sunday

Pinto is absent from the lineup Sunday at Baltimore.

Pinto started behind the plate Friday and Saturday and went a combined 1-for-7 with a strikeout and a run scored. Christian Bethancourt will handle the catching for the Rays in Sunday's series finale.

  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

Braves' Sean Murphy: Not in Sunday's lineup

Murphy is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Atlanta continues to give Murphy plenty of rest down the stretch, as he's started just seven games so far in September. Travis d'Arnaud will receive another look behind the plate for the NL East champions.

  • Jonah Heim C | ATH

Rangers' Jonah Heim: Sitting amid struggles

Heim is not in the lineup for Sunday's game at Cleveland.

Austin Hedges will start at catcher and bat ninth as Mitch Garver serves as the Rangers' designated hitter and cleanup man. Heim has slashed just .191/.223/.326 in 94 plate appearances since he returned Aug. 13 from a two-week absence to heal a strained tendon in his left wrist.

  • Bo Naylor C | CLE

Guardians' Bo Naylor: Getting breather Sunday

Naylor is not in the lineup Sunday against the Rangers.

Cam Gallagher will do the catching and bat ninth after Naylor logged three straight starts behind the plate. He went 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in the Guardians' defeat of Texas on Saturday.

  • Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: Gets breather Sunday

Kirk is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox.

Tyler Heineman will catch and bat ninth as Kirk grabs some rest after making four straight starts behind the plate. He went 1-for-4 with a walk in the Blue Jays' win over Boston on Saturday.

  • Connor Wong C | BOS

Red Sox's Connor Wong: On bench Sunday

Wong is out of the lineup Sunday versus the Blue Jays.

Reese McGuire will start at catcher and bat ninth against the Jays and left-hander Hyun Jin Ryu. Wong played all 13 innings behind the plate Saturday and went 0-for-5 with a strikeout in a 4-3 loss for the Red Sox.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Cubs' Yan Gomes: Scores three times Saturday

Gomes went 2-for-6 with a double and three runs scored in Saturday's extra-innings loss to the Diamondbacks.

The Cubs and Diamondbacks ended up playing 13 innings, with Gomes behind the plate for all of them. He also contributed offensively as his strong campaign continued. The veteran is now batting .272 with a .725 OPS. Both figures would be his highest since the shortened 2020 season. In terms of full seasons, you have to go back to 2018 to find a better OPS and 2014 to find a better average for Gomes, who should continue to see heavy work as Chicago looks to clinch a playoff spot.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Delivers winning run in extras

Moreno went 2-for-4 with two walks, a stolen base and an RBI in Saturday's 7-6 extra-innings win over the Cubs.

Moreno's opposite-field, walk-off single scored Evan Longoria, who adjusted his slide to avoid the tag, as the Diamondbacks won a second straight game against the team ahead of them in the wild-card standings. After going 4-for-4 in Friday's win, Moreno has reached base eight times in 10 plate appearances over the first two games of the series.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Exits with head injury

Perez sustained a non-concussive head injury that forced him to leave Saturday's game versus the Astros.

Perez took a foul ball to the face in the fifth inning, but the initial diagnosis suggests he's avoided a concussion. The catcher can be considered day-to-day, though it wouldn't be surprising to see him sit out Sunday's series finale. The Royals open a three-game home series versus the Guardians on Monday.
