Cesar Salazar C | HOU
Astros' Cesar Salazar: Officially promoted
The Astros recalled Salazar from Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Salazar will come up from the minors to serve as temporary depth behind the plate while Yainer Diaz recovers from a finger injury. The 28-year-old Salazar has slashed .274/.387/.458 with 35 RBI across 204 plate appearances with Sugar Land this season, though Victor Caratini will likely receive most of the starts at catcher until Diaz is healthy. Joey Loperfido was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Willson Contreras C | BOS
Cardinals' Willson Contreras: Swinging bat
Contreras (forearm) hit soft toss Tuesday and caught a bullpen session, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Contreras had previously been throwing, running and catching, but Tuesday marks the first time he's swung a bat since undergoing surgery May 9. The 32-year-old also caught a bullpen from Nick Robertson on Tuesday, an encouraging sign considering the fractured wrist was on his glove hand. Still, it's been just over four weeks of what's expected to be a 10-week recovery period for Contreras, which puts a timeline for return in the middle of July.

Garrett Stubbs C | PHI
Phillies' Garrett Stubbs: Batting eighth Tuesday
Stubbs is starting behind the plate and batting eighth Tuesday against the Red Sox, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
The 31-year-old will be making just his 15th start of the season, but he should have a more regular role for the foreseeable future with J.T. Realmuto (knee) landing on the injured list Tuesday. Stubbs has a .173/.271/.192 slash line in 59 plate appearances this season and doesn't offer much fantasy upside.

Carson Kelly C | CHC
Tigers' Carson Kelly: Idle Tuesday
Kelly is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Nationals.
Kelly will give way to Jake Rogers behind the dish for a second straight game. Since May 23, Kelly is batting .278 with a homer, five RBI and three runs scored. Rogers will bat eighth Tuesday.

Ivan Herrera C | STL
Cardinals' Ivan Herrera: Sitting again Tuesday
Herrera is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Pirates, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports,
It's the second straight game on the bench for Herrera, who started the previous 14 games and posted a .559 OPS during that span. Pedro Pages will receive another start behind the plate and bat eighth Tuesday.
-
Elias Diaz C | KC
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Held out Tuesday
Diaz (calf) is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game in Minnesota.
Diaz tweaked his left calf in Monday's loss to the Twins and the expectation is that he won't be available for the remainder of the series. Jacob Stallings will do the catching Tuesday.

Francisco Alvarez C | NYM
Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Activated from injured list
The Mets activated Alvarez (thumb) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
Alvarez has been sidelined since late April with a fractured left thumb but is ready to roll after playing in six rehab games. It's possible the Mets will ease him back into everyday action with some extra off days mixed in, but he will immediately regain his role as the club's primary catcher. Alvarez was slashing .236/.288/.364 with one home run in 16 contests before getting hurt.

Rafael Marchan C | PHI
Phillies' Rafael Marchan: Back in big leagues
Marchan was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday.
The 25-year-old was with the Phillies as the 27th man for the two-game series versus the Mets in London, and he's now fully on the big-league roster with J.T. Realmuto (knee) landing on the injured list. Marchan hasn't seen MLB action since 2021, but that will change the first time he operates as the backup to fill-in catcher Garrett Stubbs.
