Padres first baseman Yonder Alonso wasn't in the starting lineup for Friday's game, after starting 78 games this year, including five of the last six. 

Catcher Derek Norris moved to first base to replace Alonso for the sixth time this year. Austin Hedges replaced Norris behind the plate. 

A wrist ailment that has prevented Royals catcher Salvador Perez from playing since Tuesday has him sidelined again Friday against the Angels. Drew Butera will man the position instead.

Perez has hit safely in six of his last seven games to improve his slash line to .251/.265/.420. He has just eight walks in 379 at-bats this season.

Dodgers catcher Yasmani Grandal was not in Thursday's lineup against the Reds because of a sore left shoulder, reports the Orange County Register. Grandal is expected to take the next two games off with the Dodgers facing left-handed pitchers. 

Royals catcher Salvador Perez was held out of the starting lineup Thursday against the Angels for a second straight game due to wrist soreness. 

Perez is batting .360 (9 for 25) with one double, one home run, five RBI, one run, one walk and three strikeouts in his last seven games.

Marlins catcher J.T. Realmuto drove in a career-high six runs to help lead the Marlins to a 14-6 win over the Red Sox on Wednesday.

Realmuto drove in five of the runs in the sixth inning, which set a franchise record for most RBI in one inning. Realmuto finished the game 3 for 5 at the plate with one triple and a home run. He hit a grand slam off Robbie Ross in the sixth inning.

Prior to his six-RBI game Wednesday, Realmuto was hitting .209 with one home run and two RBI in his last 13 games.

Catcher Cameron Rupp had a big day for the Phillies in their win Wednesday over the Diamondbacks, driving in four runs in the 7-6 triumph. 

Rupp managed to drive in four despite registering just one hit. He had a sacrifice fly in the second inning and delivered the big blow in the sixth with a three-run home run to break a 4-4 tie. 

Rupp now has three homers and eight RBIs over his last six contests. 

Royals catcher Salvador Perez is not in the lineup for Wednesday's matchup against the Tigers. Perez left Tuesday's game with a wrist injury, which has been nagging him for several days now.

With Perez out, Drew Butera will handle the game behind the plate for the Royals on Wednesday. There has been no word on how long the Royals expect Perez to be out for. He did have X-rays and an MRI which came back negative. He'll have a few days off, but could be available in the case of an emergency, manager Ned Yost said.

Royals catcher Salvador Perez was lifted from Tuesday's game against the Tigers in the eighth inning. Perez has been dealing with inflammation and soreness in his wrist over the past few days. He had X-rays a couple of days ago which came back negative for any serious damage.

Perez is considered day-to-day, but his status for Wednesday's game is not yet known.

The Mets optioned catcher Kevin Plawecki to Triple-A Las Vegas following their 4-0 win over the Rockies on Tuesday. Plawecki saw his playing time dwindle with the return of Travis d'Arnaud from the disabled list. The Mets are poised to increase d'Arnaud's work load down the stretch, so they opted to get Plawecki more regular playing time down at Triple-A.

The Mets are recalling Anthony Recker to serve as d'Arnaud's backup, according to ESPN.com.

Rays outfielder Kevin Kiermaier and catcher Curt Casali were back in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Braves, reports the Tampa Bay Times.

Kiermaier will hit eighth and play center field while Casali will bat ninth and play catcher. Kiermaier missed Sunday's game with a thumb injury, while Casali also missed Sunday's contest because of a head injury.
