Diaz (hamstring) has been cleared to resume running and he caught a few bullpen sessions Wednesday, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports.

Diaz is expected to test the hamstring on the bases this weekend in Milwaukee. There had been talk of Diaz possibly missing the rest of the season, but it looks like he has a good chance to return to his backup role before the end of the campaign.

Vazquez is out of the lineup for the third straight game Wednesday against the Blue Jays, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

Sandy Leon will make his third consecutive start behind the plate and seems to be the starter at the moment. It's hard to call either backstop a fantasy asset, as Leon has hit .186/.244/.293 while Vazquez has posted a .212/.255/.297 line, but Leon at least seems to be the one getting the at-bats at the moment.

Plawecki is not in the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Marlins.

Plawecki sits after starting five of the last six games. With two games Wednesday, it's very likely he'll be back in the lineup for the nightcap. Tomas Nido will start the first game of the twin bill.

Gomes is not in the lineup versus the Rays on Wednesday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Roberto Perez will spell Gomes behind the plate during the series finale. During Tuesday's victory, Gomes went 2-for-4 with a solo home run.

Caratini went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI in Tuesday's 3-0 win over the Brewers.

Caratini played offensive hero for the Cubs, as he recorded two of the team's three hits and drove in critical runs in the second and seventh innings. The 25-year-old doesn't get regular playing time with Willson Contreras entrenched as the starting catcher, but he does have a modest three-game hitting streak going with a home run and six RBI in that span.

Garver is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Yankees, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Garver will take a seat in favor of Willians Astudillo for the second time in three games. Astudillo could get a fair amount of playing time down the stretch, though Garver has started 10 of the last 15 games and his spot doesn't appear to be in immediate danger, especially since the Twins are giving Astudillo some of his at-bats at designated hitter.

Perez is not starting Tuesday against the White Sox, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.

Perez sits for the second time in three games. It's possible that he won't have his usual heavy workload down the stretch in a lost season for the Royals, especially considering the thumb injury which just recently cost him seven straight starts from Aug. 29 to Sept. 5. Meibrys Viloria will start behind the plate.

Narvaez is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Royals.

With Welington Castillo back from his shoulder injury and suspension, Narvaez's role has been reduced. He's started just twice in Chicago's last seven games.

McCann is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Astros.

The Tigers continue their pattern of two McCann starts followed by one Grayson Greiner start, a system which has been used for the last 15 games. Greiner gets the call Tuesday.

Contreras is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Brewers.

Contreras will give way to Victor Caratini behind the dish after starting Monday's series opener and going 1-for-3 with a walk, a double and a run scored. The backstop is off to a slow start to September, hitting just .150/.261/.200 across eight games.
