Maldonado was removed from Tuesday's game against the Yankees after a collision at home plate, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.

The 34-year-old appeared to take a shot to the head during a collision with Rougned Odor, and the catcher remained down on the field for a few minutes before leaving the game. Maldonado is likely being evaluated for a head injury and should be considered day-to-day for the time being.

Bart was recalled by the Giants on Tuesday, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Bart's stay on the big-league roster may be temporary, as he'll be filling the roster spot that had belonged to Kevin Gausman, who isn't expected to miss much time while recovering from the side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine. It's possible he'll stick around as Buster Posey's backup, but it's unclear why the Giants would abandon their plan to give Bart regular at-bats in Triple-A right as the minor-league seasons are beginning.

Perez is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Royals.

He got back into the mix Monday after dealing with a finger injury. Austin Hedges is starting behind the dish and hitting ninth.

Contreras will be on the bench for the second half of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Dodgers.

Contreras went 0-for-3 with a walk in the afternoon game. It's no surprise that he won't be asked to catch two games in one day. Tony Wolters will take over behind the plate in his absence.

Mejia is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Angels, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

He's hit .286/.324/.514 with one home run over his last 10 games and has started three of the last seven. While Mejia is the superior offensive catcher to Mike Zunino, who is starting behind the dish Tuesday, they'll maintain a close playing time split due to Zunino's superior defense.

Trevino is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Twins.

He's batted .121 with one home run over his last 10 games. Jonah Heim will start behind the dish and bat ninth.

Mejia went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run in a win over the Angels on Monday.

Mejia continues to deliver at the plate relatively consistently, with Monday marking the fourth time in his last five starts that he's hit safely. After a forgettable 2020 in San Diego, Mejia seems on track for production that much more closely resembles the encouraging .265/.316/.438 slash he generated over 244 plate appearances with the Padres in 2019.

Smith is out of the lineup for the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Cubs.

Clayton Kershaw will start for the Dodgers in the afternoon contest, so Smith will take a seat while the lefty's personal catcher, Austin Barnes, steps in behind the dish. Expect Smith to catch Trevor Bauer in the nightcap.

The Dodgers recalled Ruiz from their taxi squad ahead of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cubs.

He'll provide the Dodgers with a third catcher behind Will Smith and Austin Barnes. Los Angeles opened a spot for Ruiz on the 26-man roster by designating pitcher Mike Kickham for assignment Monday.

Heim (neck) was available to play Monday, Sam Blum of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Heim had been removed from Sunday's game after taking a foul ball to the neck area. Manager Chris Woodward said the catcher was fine and available to play.
