This information helps explain why the Angels did not go to Bemboom when starting catcher Max Stassi went on the seven-day injured list Thursday due to a concussion. It's unclear how long Bemboom has been dealing with the bad back or how much longer he'll be on the shelf, but the issue is substantial enough that the Angels traded for veteran Drew Butera on Friday to provide catching depth.

Stallings isn't starting Saturday's game against the Cubs.

Stallings had gone 3-for-10 with a double, a run, two walks and a strikeout in the last three games. Michael Perez will start at catcher and bat eighth.

Gomes isn't starting Saturday's game against the Yankees.

Gomes had started in each of the last six games and went 9-for-24 with three home runs, a double, six RBI and four runs during that time. Alex Avila will start behind the dish and bat eighth.

Nola's underwent X-rays on his left hand Friday that came back negative, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Nola was hit by a pitch on his left hand in the top of the sixth inning Friday, and he's now been diagnosed with a left hand contusion. However, manager Jayce Tingler didn't sound too concerned about the injury and said that the catcher could return to the lineup as soon as Saturday.

Realmuto went 3-for-5 with a walk, a two-run home run and a second run scored in Friday's 12-2 rout of Atlanta.

The game was already well in hand when Realmuto took Carl Edwards deep in the eighth inning. The All-Star catcher had gone just 3-for-20 over his prior eight games, but on the season Realmuto still boasts a .308/.407/.516 slash line with four homers, two steals, 14 runs and 15 RBI through 30 contests.

Sanchez went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and a strikeout in Friday's 11-4 loss to the Nationals.

Sanchez has lost his grip on the primary catching job recently, but he flashed his power with his third home run of the season in the second inning Friday. The 28-year-old has started in just four of the last 10 games and will need to perform on a more consistent basis if he hopes to carve out more playing time.

Gomes homered in his first plate appearance but failed to get on base in any of his other at-bats. However, the 33-year-old has been on a tear recently, as he's hit .375 with three home runs, a double, six RBI and four runs in his last six games.

Garver (shoulder) isn't expected to miss significant time after leaving Friday's game against the Tigers, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Manager Rocco Baldelli said after Friday's game that Garver will receive treatment for his injury, but the catcher will likely be able to return within a day or two. Ben Rortvedt or Willians Astudillo could draw a start behind the plate to allow Garver time to recover, but it's unlikely that he'll require a stint on the injured list.

Perez went 4-for-4 with a double in Friday's 3-0 loss to the White Sox.

Perez accounted for half of the Royals' hits Friday and the team couldn't manage to bring a run home. The 30-year-old catcher improved his season slash line to .293/.331/.528 with 15 extra-base hits.

Nola left Friday's game against the Giants in the bottom of the sixth inning due to an apparent left hand injury, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Nola was hit by a pitch on his left hand in the top of the sixth, and Victor Caratini stepped in behind the dish to begin the bottom half of the inning. Nola missed nearly a month with a broken left finger to begin the season, and it's not yet clear whether he'll miss time after leaving Friday's game.
