  • Max Stassi C | SF

    Angels' Max Stassi: Sitting Sunday

Stassi will sit Sunday against the Mets, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.

Stassi hasn't started more than three consecutive games at any point this season. He was in the lineup for each of the Angels' last three contests, so it's not a surprise to see Kurt Suzuki take over behind the plate Sunday.

  • Red Sox's Christian Vazquez: Out of Sunday's lineup

Vazquez is not in Sunday's lineup against the Mariners.

Vazquez is hitting .167 with zero home runs and one steal in nine games this month. Kevin Plawecki is starting behind the dish and hitting ninth.

  • Curt Casali C | ATL

    Giants' Curt Casali: Sitting Sunday

Casali will be on the bench Sunday against the Dodgers, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Casali is playing through a hamstring issue and expects to for some time, but he isn't expected to wind up on the injured list. Austin Wynns will take over behind the plate Sunday.

  • Austin Nola C | COL

Padres' Austin Nola: Gets Sunday off

Nola will not start Sunday's game against Colorado.

Nola and Jorge Alfaro have now alternated starts behind the plate for 18 straight games. Alfaro gets the nod Sunday, but Nola should start Monday at Wrigley Field if the pattern continues.

  • Elias Diaz C | TEX

Rockies' Elias Diaz: Hits bench Sunday

Diaz will sit Sunday against the Padres, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Diaz and Brian Serven have alternated starts behind the plate over the last six games. Serven gets the nod Sunday, but Diaz should return for Tuesday's game against the Guardians if the pattern continues.

  • Cal Raleigh C | SEA

    Mariners' Cal Raleigh: Sitting Sunday

Raleigh will be on the bench Sunday against the Red Sox.

The Mariners didn't have a clear starting catcher for the early part of the season, but Raleigh has a firm grip on the role now. His off day Sunday follows five straight starts. Luis Torrens will take over behind the plate.

  • Marlins' Jacob Stallings: Remains on bench

Stallings will sit for the second straight game Sunday against the Astros.

Stallings has been on the bench for back-to-back games on just one previous occasion this season, though there haven't been reports that his absence Sunday is due to injury. Nick Fortes will get another start behind the plate, catching for Edward Cabrera.

  • Seby Zavala C | LAD

White Sox's Seby Zavala: Contract purchased from Triple-A

Zavala's contract was selected from Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday.

Yasmani Grandal (hamstring) has not been placed on the injured list, but he is also unavailable in the short term, so Zavala will serve as the backup catcher. Reese McGuire figures to get the bulk of the starts while Grandal is out.

  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

Yankees' Jose Trevino: Out with back tightness

Trevino is out with back tightness Sunday, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.

He was scratched from Sunday's lineup against the Cubs. Trevino apparently played through the issue Saturday and the team hopes to get him a couple days off as the Yankees have an off day Monday before starting a series against the Rays.

  • Pirates' Tyler Heineman: Not in Sunday's lineup

Heineman will sit Sunday against Atlanta.

Heineman, who owns a .486 OPS in 24 games this season, has now been on the bench for three of the last five games. It's not clear that he's meaningfully ahead of Sunday's starter Michael Perez on the catcher depth chart at the moment.
