Tres Barrera C | WAS
Nationals' Tres Barrera: Gets rare start
Barrera went 1-for-3 with a run scored in Wednesday's loss to the Cubs.
The 27-year-old has only started two of 10 games so far in August as Keibert Ruiz continues to get most of the work behind the plate. Since joining the big-league roster in early July, Barrera hasn't made a compelling case for a bigger role, going 5-for-27 (.185) with a double, four RBI and a 31.0 percent strikeout rate.

J.T. Realmuto C | PHI
Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Day off Thursday
Realmuto is not in the starting lineup Thursday versus the Marlins.
Realmuto will get a breather after he went 3-for-8 with a home run, a double, three RBI and a run scored in the first two games of the series. Garrett Stubbs will take over behind the plate and bat eighth in the series finale.
-
Gary Sanchez C | MIL
Twins' Gary Sanchez: Snaps homer drought
Sanchez went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and an additional run scored in Wednesday's loss to the Dodgers.
When Sanchez swatted a 400-foot solo shot in the fifth inning, it marked his first long ball in over a month. The backstop slashed a miserable .174/.255/.196 with only one extra-base hit during the drought. Sanchez is far removed from his peak days as one of the game's premier power hitters.
-
Salvador Perez DH | KC
Royals' Salvador Perez: Three hits, two RBI in victory
Perez went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's win versus the White Sox.
Perez ripped an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning and came around to score on a Michael Massey single later in the frame. He later added two singles, including one that drove in a run in the eighth frame. Perez has compiled a .259 batting average with five homers, two doubles, 16 RBI and seven runs over 13 games since returning from the 10-day injured list July 29.

Elias Diaz C | TEX
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Exits game early
Diaz left Wednesday's loss to St. Louis early after hurting his hand during a swing and will undergo an MRI, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.
Diaz has endured a lingering issue with his hand, according to manager Bud Black. An MRI scan will help determine the severity of the injury and how long -- if at all -- he will have to sit out. Diaz is slashing .229/.291/.372 this season with 33 RBI in 76 games.
-
Austin Nola C | COL
Padres' Austin Nola: Drives in three
Nola went 1-for-3 with a walk, a home run, three RBI and two runs scored Wednesday against the Giants.
Nola took Jarlin Garcia yard in the sixth inning to tally his third homer of the season. He has started four of the Padres' last five games with Jorge Alfaro (knee) battling an injury, though Nola has only three hits across 13 at-bats in that span. For the season, Nola has a .247/.318/.324 line across 283 plate appearances.

Joey Bart C | CHW
Giants' Joey Bart: Managing ankle sprain
Bart was diagnosed with a right ankle sprain after undergoing an MRI and was available on an emergency basis during Wednesday's 13-7 loss to the Padres, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Bart has been held out of the lineup the past two days due to the injury, but the Giants hope he'll be able to retake the field Friday versus the Pirates after Thursday's scheduled off day. A trip to the injured list doesn't appear to be in play at this point. Austin Wynns has worked behind the plate the past couple days and should continue to start until Bart is cleared to return.
-
James McCann C | ARI
Mets' James McCann: Steals rare bag
McCann went 1-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's 10-2 rout of the Reds.
The 32-year-old year catcher caught Cincinnati napping in the second inning to steal his second base of the year, the first time since 2019 that McCann has multiple thefts in a season. He's started only four of eight games since coming off the IL earlier this month, going 3-for-14 with three singles, and he'll likely continue to split playing time with Tomas Nido unless McCann is able to heat up at the plate.
-
Jonah Heim C | ATH
Rangers' Jonah Heim: On bench Wednesday
Heim isn't starting Wednesday against the Astros.
Heim went 0-for-5 with three walks and a strikeout over the last two games but will head to the bench Wednesday. Meibrys Viloria will start behind the plate and bat sixth.
-
Christian Vazquez C | HOU
Astros' Christian Vazquez: Gets Wednesday off
Vazquez will sit Wednesday versus the Rangers.
Vazquez will get a breather after he went 1-for-3 in Tuesday's win. Martin Maldonado will start at catcher and bat ninth against Texas.
