Contreras is out of the lineup for Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cardinals due to left ankle stiffness, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Contreras was held out of the lineup for Chicago's victory in Game 1 after waking up with the stiffness, though he's expected to be available off the bench in the nightcap. The 30-year-old initially suffered the injury during the Field of Dreams Game against the Reds on Aug. 11 and aggravated the issue last week versus the Orioles on a play at the plate. P.J. Higgins will start at catcher in Game 2 for the Cubs.

Adams was recalled from Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday.

Tres Barrera was optioned to Triple-A on Monday, so Adams will take his place as the backup catcher. Adams has a .224/.317/.411 slash line at Triple-A and a .192/.284/.321 slash line in the majors.

Heineman is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against Atlanta.

The switch-hitting Heineman will bow out of the starting nine versus Atlanta southpaw Max Fried, with the righty-hitting Jason Delay getting the nod at catcher. The two backstops are expected to work in a timeshare moving forward, with Heineman likely drawing most of the starts versus right-handed pitching.

McCann is on the bench Tuesday versus the Yankees, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Tomas Nido will catch the second game of the Subway Series in place of McCann, who is just 6-for-34 with 13 strikeouts in 11 games this month.

Bart is on the bench for Tuesday's game against the Tigers, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Bart has struck out multiple times in consecutive games and 11 times in his last 31 at-bats, although he has a respectable .772 OPS in that 10-game span. Austin Wynns is handling catching duties Tuesday.

Godoy cleared waivers Tuesday and was assigned to Triple-A Indianapolis, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

He'll stick around in the Pittsburgh organization after getting outrighted off the 40-man roster over the weekend. After being claimed off waivers from the Twins earlier this month, Godoy went 0-for-7 with an RBI across five games with Pittsburgh.

Contreras is out of the lineup for the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Cardinals.

Yan Gomes will be behind the dish for the opening game of the day while Contreras gets a breather. Expect Contreras to check in at catcher for the nightcap.

Nido (illness) was activated from the COVID-19 injured list Monday, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.

Nido was sidelined for the last week, but he is ready to get back on the field. Nido did not require a rehab assignment, but he will work behind James McCann for at least one night.

Barrera was optioned to Triple-A Rochester on Monday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Barrera has served as the Nationals' backup catcher since early July, but he posted a paltry .441 OPS in 35 plate appearances over 14 games, so the team decided to send him back to Triple-A for the time being. It remains to be seen who will replace Barrera on Washington's roster, but Riley Adams is the most likely option.

Knizner will return to the bench for Monday's game against the Cubs, Bally Sports Midwest reports.

With Yadier Molina (personal) coming off the restricted list Monday and stepping back in as the Cardinals' No. 1 catcher, Knizner's brief run atop the depth chart comes to an end. Knizner was behind the plate for both of the Cardinals' final two games of the weekend series in Arizona and went 3-for-7 with a double, two walks and four runs.
