  • James McCann C | ARI

Mets' James McCann: Sitting Game 1 on Wednesday

McCann is not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Pirates.

McCann will get a breather in Game 1 on Wednesday after he went 2-for-3 with a walk and run scored in Tuesday's loss. Tomas Nido will take over behind the plate and bat ninth versus Pittsburgh.

  • Joey Bart C | PIT

Giants' Joey Bart: Goes 1-for-3 in return

Bart (concussion) went 1-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Dodgers.

Bart missed the minimum seven days after entering the concussion protocol last Monday. Now that he's healthy again, he should retake the No. 1 catcher job for the Giants. He had a strong August, slashing .328/.371/.517 with three home runs, seven RBI, six runs scored and two doubles in 18 contests, so he'll look to pick up where he left off.

  • Joey Bart C | PIT

Giants' Joey Bart: Batting seventh in return from IL

Bart (concussion) was reinstated from the 7-day injured list and is starting behind the plate and batting seventh Tuesday against the Dodgers, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Bart passed the concussion tests over the weekend and is back Tuesday after spending the minimum of seven days on the injured list. Andrew Knapp was designated for assignment in a corresponding move to clear space on the active roster.

  • Marlins' Jacob Stallings: Sitting Tuesday

Stallings isn't in the lineup Tuesday against the Phillies.

Stallings has a lowly .465 OPS over the last three weeks. His consistent struggles at the plate have cost him significant playing time and have opened the door for rookie backstop Nick Fortes, who will fill in for Stallings on Tuesday and bat sixth in the order.

  • Austin Nola C | COL

    Padres' Austin Nola: Sitting Tuesday

Nola is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Nola is 0-for-13 over the past seven days and will get Tuesday off to regroup. Jorge Alfaro will take over behind the plate after coming off the injured list and bat ninth.

  • Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: Takes seat Tuesday

D'Arnaud is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the A's.

D'Arnaud posted a 1.145 OPS over his last eight games, but manager Brian Snitker wanted to get fellow backstop William Contreras a start with Ronald Acuna holding down the designated hitter spot, so d'Arnaud will open Tuesday's contest on the bench.

  • Cubs' Willson Contreras: Lands on injured list

Contreras (ankle) was placed on the 10-day injured list retroactive to Sept. 3, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Contreras was not ready to start following a team off day Monday, so the Cubs decided to deactivate him and open up a roster spot. Yan Gomes will presumably serve as the Cubs' regular catcher until Contreras returns.

  • Cubs' Willson Contreras: Remains sidelined

Contreras (ankle) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Reds.

Contreras has not started a game since the calendar flipped to September, and despite a team off day Monday, he will open on the bench for a fifth straight game. Yan Gomes will get the nod behind the plate Tuesday night.

  • Dodgers' Austin Barnes: Homers in loss

Barnes went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Monday's 7-4 loss to the Giants.

Barnes got the Dodgers within two runs with his seventh-inning blast. The backup catcher is still seeing limited playing time, but he's posted five multi-hit efforts in 10 games since the start of August. Barnes is up to a .214/.327/.400 slash line with seven homers, 23 RBI, 26 runs scored and two stolen bases through 165 plate appearances this year. Unless something happens to Will Smith, Barnes is unlikely to see much extra playing time.

  • Brewers' Victor Caratini: Drills three-run blast

Caratini went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer and a walk in Monday's 6-4 win over Colorado.

Caratini launched the go-ahead shot during Milwaukee's four-run sixth inning. He snapped a 24-game homerless drought with his first long ball since Aug. 4 and ninth on the year. The 29-year-old catcher is now slashing .207/.317/.365 with 17 extra-base hits and 29 RBI through 259 plate appearances.
