  • Rodolfo Castro 2B | PHI

Pirates' Rodolfo Castro: Sitting in fourth straight

Castro is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers.

Castro is on the bench for a fourth straight game, and he doesn't look as though he'll be a major beneficiary of Ji Hwan Bae's (ankle) move to the injured list Sunday. Though Castro has the ability to play three infield spots, the Pirates appear to have at least temporarily settled on Nick Gonzales, Tucupita Marcano and Jared Triolo as their primary options at second base, shortstop and third base, respectivey.

  • Matt Chapman 3B | SF

Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: Homers, swipes bag in loss

Chapman went 2-for-3 with a homer, a double, two RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 7-6 loss to the Red Sox. He also stole a base.

Chapman's two-run blast in the bottom of the eighth brought the Blue Jays back within one run of the Red Sox, though the team's late comeback effort would ultimately fall short. The third baseman reached base three times in the contest and recorded his first multi-RBI game since June 11 against the Twins. It was also the first time in 13 games that Chapman didn't have at least one strikeout.

  • Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Collects three hits, three RBI

Devers went 3-for-5 with a homer, a double, three RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's victory over the Blue Jays.

Devers put the Red Sox on top 2-1 with his two-run home run in the top of the third and again added to Boston's lead with an RBI single in the fifth. The third baseman reached base three times in the contest and fell a triple short of a cycle while launching his third homer in his last eight games. He's hitting .344 over that eight-game stretch with six RBI and seven runs scored.

  • Jose Miranda 3B | MIN

Twins' Jose Miranda: Called up, starting Sunday

The Twins recalled Miranda from Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday, Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. He'll start at third base and bat seventh in the Twins' series finale in Baltimore.

Miranda is back in the big leagues for the first time since early May, rejoining the Twins as a replacement on the 26-man active roster for Royce Lewis (oblique), who was placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. Though he wasn't able to build on his promising rookie campaign during his time in the majors earlier in 2023, Miranda's dormant bat has awoken at St. Paul. He finished June with a .287/.362/.436 slash line while striking out just 17 times in 23 games, and Miranda should now get another chance to step in as the Twins' primary option at third base while Lewis is on the mend.

  • Royce Lewis 3B | MIN

Twins' Royce Lewis: Moves to IL

The Twins placed Lewis (oblique) on the 10-day injured list Sunday, Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Lewis will be sidelined at least through the All-Star break after suffering a left oblique strain in Saturday's 1-0 win over the Orioles. The Twins recalled Jose Miranda from Triple-A St. Paul in a corresponding move, and he's expected to step in for Lewis as Minnesota's primary third baseman in the short term.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Goes yard twice in win

Machado went 2-for-5 with two homers and three RBI in Saturday's win over Cincinnati.

Machado went hitless in his first two at-bats before going back-to-back with Juan Soto in the top of the sixth for the third baseman's 10th home run of the season. But Machado wasn't done there, as he came up once again in the seventh and mashed a two-run shot to left center, giving the Padres a very commanding 10-1 lead. He had not recorded an RBI in six straight games coming in while it marked his first home run since June 22 against the Giants. It was Machado's second multi-homer game this season.

  • Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY

Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Five-game hitting streak snapped

McMahon went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts and a walk Saturday against the Tigers.

McMahon entered the game with a five-game hitting streak, during which he went 6-for-18. However, he had no extra-base knocks, no RBI and only one run scored in that span. After a slow start to the campaign, McMahon has posted consecutive months with a wOBA of .375 or better and wRC+ marks greater than 120.

  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

Angels' Anthony Rendon: Homers in second game back

Rendon went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Rendon had one of just three hits for the Angels, leading to their only run against Ryne Nelson and two Arizona relievers. This was Rendon's second game back from a wrist injury. The third baseman has played in just 10 contests since the start of June, going 3-for-37 with a home run, two RBI and two doubles as he navigates another injury-plagued season. He's slashing just .243/.360/.329 with two homers, 22 RBI, 23 runs scored and two stolen bases through 40 contests on the year.

  • Jose Miranda 3B | MIN

Twins' Jose Miranda: Expected to be called up

Miranda was scratched from the Triple-A St. Paul lineup Saturday and is expected to be called up after Royce Lewis left Saturday's Twins game with a strained oblique muscle, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports

Miranda began the season as Minnesota's everyday third baseman, but he was sent to Triple-A on May 10 after hitting just .220/.275/.318. Miranda hasn't been much better at Triple-A, as he's hit just .255/.326/.360 in 39 games. However, he has shown some progress lately, hitting .305/.374/.476 with two home runs in his last 20 games.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Out for second game of doubleheader

Arenado is not in the lineup for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Yankees.

Arenado went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a walk in the first game of the day. He returned from a brief absence caused by back tightness Thursday, which may have encouraged the team to lessen his workload a bit in the short term. Nolan Gorman will slide over to third base while Alec Burleson enters the lineup as the designated hitter.
