Vargas was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Friday.

Vargas, who has just 13 career MLB plate appearances under his belt, should serve as a utility infielder in the short term. Jake Lamb (shoulder contusion) was placed on the disabled list as a corresponding move, so Vargas could very well be sent back down if Lamb is able to return before September. Vargas, 27, is hitting .300/.340/.425 with four home runs and nine steals in 427 plate appearances in the Pacific Coast League.

Escobar was traded to the Diamondbacks on Friday for an undisclosed package, Jon Heyman of FancredSports.com reports.

Escobar was one of the top offensive players expected to be dealt at this year's trade deadline, and Arizona is a fine landing spot, as he immediately becomes one of the team's better hitters, and the second best infielder behind Paul Goldschmidt. He should play almost every day at either spot on the left side of the infield, and should enjoy a prominent spot in the lineup. He is slashing .274/.338/.514 with 15 home runs in 408 plate appearances. Escobar, 29, is set to become a free agent after the season. He won't play for either team Friday, so make sure he is out of daily lineups.

Duffy is out of the lineup against Baltimore on Friday.

Duffy will receive a breather after starting the previous five games, during which he's gone just 1-for-20 with one RBI. In his absence, Daniel Robertson will man third base while Joey Wendle gets a start at the keystone.

Longoria went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Thursday's 7-5 loss to Milwaukee.

Longoria was strong in his return from a trip to the disabled list with hand and triceps issues that held him out for over a month. The 32-year-old bumped his average up to .250 across 260 at-bats this season. Longoria has 10 home runs and 34 RBI in his first season with the Giants.

Chapman went 3-for-3 with two triples, a walk, three runs scored and one RBI in the 7-6 win over Texas on Thursday.

Chapman drilled three triples during the month of April but hadn't hit another one up until Thursday's contest. The 25-year-old is hitting .319 (23-for-72) in July, giving him a .266 average in 2018. In his second big league season, Chapman has 12 homers and 35 RBI, just behind his 2017 totals of 14 long balls and 40 RBI.

Suarez went 1-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and two runs in the 9-4 loss to the Phillies on Thursday.

Suarez has four hits over his last four games, all of which have left the yard. The four-game homer streak is the longest of Suarez's career and he's up to 23 home runs and a National League-leading 78 RBI. The 27-year-old owns a terrific .974 OPS in 376 plate appearances.

Machado went 1-for-4 with a solo homer and a walk in the 8-2 win over Atlanta on Thursday.

Machado went yard for the first time in his seventh game as a Dodger. The 26-year-old infielder is up to 25 home runs, 67 RBI and a .951 OPS in 449 total plate appearances this season.

The Nationals recalled Reynolds from Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday, Jorge Castillo of The Washington Post reports.

Reynolds will take the spot vacated by Anthony Rendon's placement on the paternity list. Rendon should rejoin the big club in just a few days, at which point Reynolds will likely head back to the minors.

The Giants activated Longoria (hand, triceps) from the 10-day disabled list Thursday, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Longoria is ready to rejoin the Giants after playing four rehab games with Triple-A Sacramento. Expect him to resume his role as the Giants' regular third baseman moving forward.

Segura went 1-for-3 with a go-ahead RBI single in a win over the Giants on Wednesday.

Segura's hit to center in the eighth plated Guillermo Heredia to snap a 2-2 tie, giving the Mariners a one-run lead that would ultimately prove to be enough. The 28-year-old has cooled off in July after a torrid first three months-plus of the season, but he's still hit safely in eight straight games. However, all of those have been one-hit efforts, leading to a pedestrian .246 average and .274 on-base percentage for the month.
