  • Orioles' Gunnar Henderson: Promoted to Double-A

Henderson was promoted to Double-A Bowie on Monday, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Henderson joined High-A Aberdeen in mid-June and appeared in 65 games following his promotion. During that time, he slashed .230/.343/.432 with nine home runs, 35 RBI, 34 runs and 11 stolen bases. The 20-year-old has recorded extra-base hits in each of his last four games and will face off against a higher level of competition to close out the 2021 campaign.

  • J.D. Davis 1B | LAA

Mets' J.D. Davis: Stuck in reserve role

Davis remains out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cardinals, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

With only two starts since the beginning of September, Davis is clearly behind Jonathan Villar in the pecking order at third base. Even if the Mets were to lose another everyday player to an injury, Davis won't necessarily be the next man up to crack the regular lineup. Dominic Smith has also faded into a reserve role this month, with Jeff McNeil taking over as the Mets' primary option in left field.

  • Edmundo Sosa LF | PHI

Cardinals' Edmundo Sosa: Returns to starting nine

Sosa (wrist) will start at shortstop and bat seventh Monday against the Mets.

Sosa checks back into the lineup after he was on the bench for the past four games with a sore left wrist. Before the injury surfaced, Sosa had supplanted Paul DeJong as the Cardinals' top shortstop. Dating back to Aug. 14, Sosa is slashing .371/.446/.565 with 12 runs and 12 RBI.

  • Edmundo Sosa LF | PHI

Cardinals' Edmundo Sosa: Sees at-bats as in-game replacement

Sosa (wrist) entered Sunday's win over the Reds as a defensive replacement at shortstop and subsequently went 0-for-2.

Sosa's blanking at the plate pales in relevance to the fact the ailing infielder managed to take swings in game action again after missing the previous four contests with wrist pain. Assuming he has no residual effects from Sunday's activity, Sosa, who'd opened September hitting .364 (8-for-22) over his first seven games of the month, could be back in the starting lineup Monday against the Mets.

  • Kyle Farmer 3B | ATL

Reds' Kyle Farmer: Returns to team

Farmer returned from the paternity list Monday.

Farmer had been away from the team since Friday. He'll likely return to his role as the Reds' primary shortstop going forward, though it wasn't Jose Barrero who was optioned in his place, so he could potentially have competition. Instead, Brad Brach was designated for assignment.

  • Gio Urshela 3B | MIN

Yankees' Gio Urshela: Off Monday, move to SS awaits

Urshela is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Twins, but manager Aaron Boone said he expects the 29-year-old to serve as the Yankees' primary shortstop for the remainder of the season, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.

After recently shaking off a hand injury and proceeding to go 2-for-14 in four straight starts upon rejoining the lineup, Urshela is just getting some maintenance Monday in a day game after a night game. His absence from the starting nine is probably of lesser significance than the fact that he's poised to shift over from third base to shortstop, as the Yankees look for a defensive upgrade in light of Gleyber Torres' struggles in the field of late. Torres will move down a spot in the defensive spectrum to second base, while the primary option at the keystone, DJ LeMahieu, kicks over to Urshela's old post at third base. After Monday, the Yankees will have 18 games remaining on their regular-season schedule, and since he's already made eight starts at shortstop in 2021, Urshela should have a decent chance at carrying eligibility at the position in 2022 in certain leagues if he plays nearly every day the rest of the way.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Carries team with two-run homer

Arenado went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Sunday's win over the Reds.

The star third baseman carried the Cardinals to victory by putting the lone two runs of the game on the board thanks to his 31st homer of the season -- a two-run shot off Sonny Gray in the bottom of the first. Arenado has homered in back-to-back games and is hitting .250 with five homers, 12 RBI, nine runs scored and a .937 OPS across 11 games (41 plate appearances) this month.

  • DJ LeMahieu 2B | NYY

Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: On base four times

LeMahieu went 3-for-4 with two runs and a walk in a 7-6 loss to the Mets on Sunday.

LeMahieu walked and scored in the first inning and singled in the second, seventh and ninth to reach base four times for the third time all season and first since July 11. Though the infielder is still hitting for average with a 13-for-39 mark in 11 September games, all of those hits have been singles, and LeMahieu's overall isolated power is his lowest since 2015.

  • Taylor Walls SS | TB

Rays' Taylor Walls: Hot in first two games back

Walls, who went 0-for-3 with two walks in an extra-innings loss to the Tigers on Sunday, is 2-for-6 with three base on balls, a stolen base and a run in his first two games since being recalled from Triple-A Durham.

Walls was recalled from the Bulls prior to Saturday's game versus Detroit, a 7-2 win for the Rays in which he went 2-for-3 with a walk, a steal and a run while starting at shortstop for Wander Franco (hamstring). Walls still carries just a .209/.316/.306 slash line in the majors this season, but his diverse production over the small weekend sample offers some hope that he may be starting to get a better handle on big-league arms. He should be set for steady starting opportunities while Franco remains sidelined.

  • Tigers' Jeimer Candelario: Powers offense in win

Candelario went 2-for-5 with a pair of home runs and three RBI in Sunday's 8-7 extra-innings win over Tampa Bay.

The 27-year-old hit a solo shot in the fourth inning and a game-tying two-run blast to keep Detroit alive in the 10th. Candelario is off to a good start in September, going 13-for-43 (.302) with four homers, 13 RBI and 10 runs scored across 11 games. His season slash line is up to a strong .275/.350/.449 with 14 long balls in 134 contests.
