Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Returns to lineup

Suarez will return to the Reds' lineup for Friday's game against the Cardinals after sitting out Thursday's contest due to back spasms, John Fay of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Suarez was a late scratch Thursday, but the issue was evidently not a serious one, as he'll miss only one game. He'll hit cleanup and play third base Friday.

  • Dodgers' Manny Machado: Goes deep again

Machado went 2-for-3 with a solo home run Thursday against the Diamondbacks.

Machado took Robbie Ray deep in the sixth inning to record his 33rd home run of the season. He now has five home runs in his past eight games after hitting only two through the first three weeks of August. While he's posted standout seasons in the past, Machado is pacing towards career-best marks in batting average, on-base percentage, home runs, and RBI.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Remains out against lefty

Muncy is not in the lineup Thursday against the Diamondbacks.

Muncy will stick on the bench for a second straight game with the Diamondbacks sending out left-hander Robbie Ray. Enrique Hernandez will take over at first base Thursday, hitting fifth.

Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Scratched from Thursday's lineup

Suarez was scratched from Thursday's starting nine against the Brewers due to mid-back spams, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

The Reds have yet to provide any additional information regarding Suarez's injury, so he should be considered day-to-day ahead of Friday's game in St. Louis for the time being. In his place, Dilson Herrera was added to Thursday's lineup at second base while Brandon Dixon was shifted over to start at third.

  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

Brewers' Mike Moustakas: Clubs 25th homer

Moustakas went 4-for-6 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI in Wednesday's 13-12 extra-inning win over the Reds.

He's provided the Brewers with exactly the power boost they were looking for when they acquired him, and Moustakas is now slashing .284/.351/.500 in 28 games for Milwaukee with five homers and 19 RBI. The 29-year-old is now just five home runs shy of his second career 30-HR campaign, and four RBI from tying his previous best of 85.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Rare day off

Longoria is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.

It appears to be a rare day off for Longoria, who had started 25 consecutive games heading into Wednesday, slashing just .222/.264/.394 over that stretch. Alen Hanson is starting at third base in the series finale.

  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Escobar: Gets breather

Escobar is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Giants.

Escobar will head to the bench for Wednesday's series finale after starting 13 straight games, slashing .235/.316/.392 with two homers over that stretch. Daniel Descalso is starting at third base in this one.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: On bench vs. left-hander

Muncy is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Rangers, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Muncy will take a seat on the bench for Wednesday's series finale with southpaw Mike Minor on the hill for Texas. In his place, Cody Bellinger will start at first base while Enrique Hernandez draws the assignment in center field.

  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN

Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Slumping since return

Hayes has gone 4-for-18 (all singles) with two walks, five strikeouts and a stolen base in five games with Double-A Altoona since returning from a shoulder injury.

The 21-year-old suffered a left shoulder contusion Aug. 19 and missed several days as a result, but by all accounts he's healthy now. Hayes will look to finish strong in Altoona's final six games after slashing .278/.360/.429 with seven homers and 10 steals in his first 112 games with the affiliate. The Pirates figure to promote Hayes to Triple-A Indianapolis early on in 2019 and it seems likely -- considering Hayes' path to date -- that they will keep him there for the majority of the season.

  • Dodgers' Manny Machado: Drives in four

Machado went 2-for-4 with a sacrifice fly and four RBI in Tuesday's win over the Rangers.

Machado was trouble for Rangers pitching throughout the game. He opened the scoring with a two-RBI single in the third inning, added a sacrifice fly in the fourth and stretched the lead to five with another RBI single in the sixth. Machado has hit a solid .272/.349/.469 with seven homers and five steals since joining the Dodgers. His 119 wRC+ with his new team is down from the 154 wRC+ he posted in the first part of the season in Baltimore but is right in line with his career figure (120).
