Dodgers' Max Muncy: Resumes batting practice

Muncy (forearm) took part in a full round of batting practice Sunday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Muncy has missed the last four games due to the forearm soreness but doesn't appear too far away from a return to game action. The 28-year-old also took part in some defensive work this weekend but remains without an official timeline for his return.

    Dodgers' Max Muncy: Remains out

Muncy (forearm) is not in the lineup for Sunday's Cactus League game against the Brewers, Eric Stephen of TrueBlueLA.com reports.

Muncy is still nursing a sore forearm and will miss a fourth straight game as a result. The infielder was able to field grounders over the weekend, though he remains without a timetable for his return.

  • Pedro Alvarez 3B | MIA

Marlins' Pedro Alvarez: Clubs two homers

Alvarez went 2-for-2 with two home runs, three runs scored and five RBI in Saturday's spring game against the Mets.

Alvarez had only two extra-base hits this spring prior to Saturday, but was able to go deep twice after entering the game as a pinch runner. The 32-year-old joined the Marlins on a minor-league deal in December and is fighting for a place on the Opening Day roster.

    Dodgers' Max Muncy: Still sidelined

Muncy (forearm) is out of the Dodgers' lineup for Saturday's Cactus League game against the White Sox, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Muncy will be sidelined for the third straight day while he continues to recover from a sore forearm. The corner infielder was at least able to field grounders Friday, but until he's able to throw without any discomfort, he could be limited to designated-hitter duties in any spring games he might play.

  • Josh Donaldson 3B | MIL

Braves' Josh Donaldson: Slugs first spring homer

Donaldson went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Marlins.

He took Wei-Yin Chen deep in the third inning for his first home run of the spring. Donaldson has been brought along slowly in camp on the heels of a rough season that was ruined by injuries, but if the 33-year-old stays reasonably healthy, he could still make an impact -- he hit .270 with 33 home runs in 113 games as recently as 2017.

  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

Nationals' Anthony Rendon: Showing signs of life

Rendon went 4-for-4 with two home runs, three RBI and three runs scored Friday against the Mets.

Rendon clubbed a two-run homer in the second inning and slugged a solo blast to left in the fourth. The 28-year-old third baseman has had a rough start to spring training, although Friday's performance could be just what he needs to get back on track. Rendon is now 7-for-27 with three homers, four RBI and five runs scored in camp.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Out again Friday

Muncy (forearm) is not listed on the roster for Friday's spring game against the Reds, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Muncy was scratched from Thursday's lineup due to forearm irritation so it's unsurprising to see him out of the lineup only a day later. The Dodgers said the 28-year-old is considered day-to-day, so hopefully he'll only need a couple days to rest up before returning to action. Muncy was spotted taking ground balls but not throwing Friday, per Ken Gurnick of MLB.com.

  • Kevin Newman 3B | LAA

Pirates' Kevin Newman: Contributes in Thursday win

Newman went 3-for-4 with a double, a homer and three RBI against the Phillies on Thursday.

He also stole his first base of the spring. Newman's big game may have moved him ahead of Erik Gonzalez in the starting shortstop competition. Gonzalez is batting just .120 in 25 Grapefruit League at-bats. Newman holds a career .288 batting average in the minors and stole 28 bases at Triple-A in 2018.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Day-to-day with sore forearm

Muncy was scratched from Thursday's lineup against the Reds with forearm irritation and is considered day-to-day, Pedro Moura of The Athletic reports.

The Dodgers have a split-squad Thursday, so it remains to be seen who will slot into the lineup at Camelback Ranch. The team was quick to say he is day-to-day, so hopefully this will not affect his status for Opening Day.

  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

Nationals' Anthony Rendon: Sluggish spring continues

Rendon went 0-for-3 in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Braves.

The third baseman is just 3-for-23 (.130) so far this spring, but there's little cause for alarm -- Rendon has struck out only once in nine games, and once he gets his timing down at the plate he should be barreling balls and collecting hits in bunches. Rendon has delivered at least 20 homers, 80 RBI and a .270 batting average in each of his four full seasons in the majors, but the 28-year-old could find another gear in 2019 with Bryce Harper gone, and more run-producing responsibility on his shoulders.
