Reds' Nick Senzel: Available off bench

Senzel (headache) is expected to be available off the bench Saturday against the Brewers, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

A headache forced Senzel to leave Friday's contest, a particular worry for a player who has missed time due to vertigo in the past. The issue doesn't appear to be particularly serious right now, and it doesn't sound as though Senzel will miss too much more time.

Reds' Nick Senzel: Out with headache

Senzel (headache) is not in Saturday's lineup against the Brewers.

He left Friday's game with a migraine headache, which wouldn't be ideal under any circumstance but is even more concerning given Senzel's track record of missing time with vertigo. Jose Peraza is starting in center field and hitting seventh.

  • Diamondbacks' Ildemaro Vargas: Enters for injured Marte

Vargas entered Friday's game after Ketel Marte left with a groin injury. He went 1-for-2 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored in an 11-5 loss to the Giants.

Vargas has been an adequate fill-in for the Diamondbacks, getting starts in place of the injured Wilmer Flores (foot) when Marte lines up in the outfield. Manager Torey Lovullo will likely exercise caution with Marte, who has been the Diamondbacks' most impactful hitter (3.6 WAR), so Vargas could get starts over the weekend. The 27-year-old utility infielder is slashing .267/.308/.393 over a career-high 143 plate appearances.

  • Austin Riley 3B | ATL

Braves' Austin Riley: Smashes 12th homer

Riley went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a 4-3 loss against the Nationals on Friday.

The rookie hit his homer in the second to give the Braves an early 2-0 lead, but Riley then struck out in two of his final three at-bats. He is batting .291 with a .619 slugging percentage, 12 home runs, 34 RBI and 29 runs in 134 at-bats this season.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Goes deep in loss

Machado went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in a 2-1 loss against the Pirates on Friday.

Only two Padres hitters reached base twice Friday, and Machado was one of them. He's also on a nine-game hitting streak, and during that stretch, Machado has five home runs and 10 RBI. He is batting .271 with 15 home runs, 43 RBI, 44 runs and one steal in 277 at-bats this season.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Rockies' Nolan Arenado: Goes yard in loss

Arenado went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Dodgers.

A toe injury didn't cost Arenado any games, and the third baseman proved he's good to go with a fourth-inning blast off Walker Buehler. Arenado has hit .333 with two homers, four RBI and seven runs scored in his last six games. The 28-year-old has 19 homers and 61 RBI in 74 games this season.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Scores twice in win

Muncy went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk in Friday's 4-2 win over the Rockies.

He opened the scoring in the second inning by coming home on Chris Taylor's sacrifice fly, and then scored again on Matt Beaty's walkoff homer. Muncy has been nursing a bruised ankle this week, but he's now hit safely in his last nine games, swatting four homers and adding eight RBI and eight runs in that span.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

Reds' Nick Senzel: Departs with headache

Senzel exited Friday's game against the Brewers due to a headache, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

Senzel was pulled from the contest in the fourth inning, and it was later revealed that he left with a headache. The Reds are likely exercising caution with the young center fielder, who's dealt with vertigo in the past.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Retreats to bench

Longoria will head to the bench for Friday's game against the Diamondbacks, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Longoria is in line for a breather after starting five straight games at the hot corner. Pablo Sandoval draws the nod at third base and will bat third with Longoria on the bench.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Back in starting nine

Muncy (ankle) is starting at second base and batting fifth Friday night against the Rockies, Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Muncy has been nursing a bruised ankle, but it's evidently not serious enough to cause an extended absence. He's currently in the midst of an eight-game hitting streak, going 10-for-28 with four homers and eight RBI over that stretch.
