  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Launches pair of long balls

Arenado went 2-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI in a 15-4 win over the Brewers on Friday.

The veteran slugger got St. Louis off to a fast start with a first-inning two-run shot to left field, and he added a solo homer in the third. Arenado has gone deep three times in his past two contests following a 14-game stretch during which he homered only once. He has swatted 29 long balls in his first campaign with the Cardinals, adding 32 doubles, 88 RBI and a pair of stolen bases.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Reinstated, not starting

Longoria (hand) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Friday but isn't starting the series opener against the Dodgers.

The 35-year-old suffered a right hand contusion in late August, but he'll rejoin the major-league club after missing just over the minimum of 10 days. Kris Bryant will start at the hot corner and bat third Friday, but Longoria will likely be available off the bench if needed.

  • Brian Anderson RF | ATL

Marlins' Brian Anderson: Expected to miss remainder of 2021

Anderson was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left shoulder subluxation Friday.

Anderson has been dealing with shoulder discomfort since Tuesday, and he recently underwent an MRI that revealed left shoulder subluxation, the same injury that forced him to miss two month earlier in the year. As a result, the 28-year-old is expected to miss the remainder of the season, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports. Isan Diaz and Joe Panik should share duties at third base in Anderson's absence.

  • Brewers' Eduardo Escobar: Reinstated from 10-day IL

Escobar (hamstring) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Friday.

Escobar had been on the injured list since Aug. 24 due to a right hamstring strain, but he'll be back in action for Friday's series opener against the Cardinals. Prior to his injury, the 32-year-old had slashed .248/.321/.446 with four homers, 16 runs and 13 RBI in 32 games since the All-Star break.

  • Brian Anderson RF | ATL

Marlins' Brian Anderson: Likely heading to IL

Anderson (shoulder) is expected to be placed on the 10-day injured list Friday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Anderson hasn't seen the field since Sunday while dealing with left shoulder discomfort, and he's expected to be sidelined for at least another week. The 28-year-old underwent an MRI, and the results should determine whether or not a stint on the shelf is necessary.

  • Nick Maton DH | CHW

Phillies' Nick Maton: Optioned to Triple-A

Maton was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday.

He has hit .256 with two home runs and two steals in 131 plate appearances in the majors as a rookie. Didi Gregorius was reinstated from the restricted list in a corresponding move.

  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

Reds' Mike Moustakas: Sits against lefty

Moustakas is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Tigers, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

An 0-for-3, two-strikeout effort Wednesday afternoon has Moustakas' average at .161 with two doubles, two home runs and four RBI in his last 10 games. Eugenio Suarez gets the start at third base and bats fifth.

  • Austin Riley 3B | ATL

Braves' Austin Riley: Plates two runs Thursday

Riley went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI, a run scored and a walk in Thursday's win over the Rockies.

Riley made his presence felt once again with a two-run double in the top of the third, and that kind of production has become routine for him. The third baseman has been seeing the ball extremely well of late and has recorded hits in all but one of his last nine contests, going 14-for-34 (.412) with a homer, two doubles, six RBI and four runs scored in that span.

  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN

Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Out again Friday

Hayes (hand) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Cubs, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

Having not played since Sunday, Hayes must be dealing with a fairly significant hand bruise, although there's been no indication a trip to the injured list is in his future. It's unclear whether the 24-year-old will be available off the bench Friday. Hoy Park is starting at third base and batting eighth.

  • Brian Anderson RF | ATL

Marlins' Brian Anderson: Day-to-day with shoulder injury

Anderson is considered day-to-day due to shoulder discomfort, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Anderson is slated to miss a second consecutive game Thursday, and manager Don Mattingly revealed the third baseman is dealing with shoulder discomfort after diving for a ball Tuesday. It's not yet clear whether the 28-year-old will return to the lineup for Friday's series opener against the Phillies.
