Rangers' Drew Robinson: Lined up for primary 2B duties

Robinson is in line to start regularly at second base while Adrian Beltre (hamstring) is sidelined, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.

Robinson had moved into a bench role with the return of Delino DeShields, but he'll be thrusted back into a full-time role with yet another injury hitting the Rangers' starting nine. Isaiah Kiner-Falefa will be the direct replacement for Beltre by moving from second base to third base, but Robinson should see a nice boost in his playing time once again, at least until Rougned Odor (hamstring) returns. Robinson hasn't done much with his opportunities this season, batting just .175 with five RBI in 57 at-bats.

  • Josh Donaldson 3B | MIL

Blue Jays' Josh Donaldson: Progresses to long toss

Donaldson (shoulder) moved to long toss and will be required to throw across the diamond before embarking on a rehab assignment, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Donaldson was able to resume throwing last week and appears to be nearing a rehab assignment by this weekend if he continues on this progression. Expect another update once he proves that he can handle the throw from third to first in the coming days.

  • Matt Duffy 3B | TEX

Rays' Matt Duffy: Scheduled for simulated game Wednesday

Duffy (hamstring) is scheduled to play a simulated game at High-A Charlotte on Wednesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Duffy was placed on the 10-day disabled list last week with a right hamstring strain, but it doesn't look as though he'll be in store for an extended absence. The third baseman came out of a workout Tuesday feeling fine and will ramp up his activity another level Wednesday. If all goes well during the simulated game, Duffy could stick with Charlotte or head to Triple-A Durham for a rehab game Thursday before returning from the DL when first eligible Friday or soon thereafter.

  • Twins' Eduardo Escobar: Records three hits

Escobar went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and an RBI against the Yankees on Tuesday.

Escobar batted cleanup for the second time this season with left-handed pitcher CC Sabathia on the mound and took advantage by posting his first three-hit performance of the season. Though he has only two home runs, he has a 38 percent hard contact rate which has resulted in a .534 slugging percentage. With Jorge Polanco serving an 80-game suspension, Escobar should have the opportunity to maintain his solid early season performance while seeing consistent at-bats.

  • Drew Robinson 3B | TEX

Rangers' Drew Robinson: Fills in at third base

Robinson entered Tuesday's game at third base after Adrian Beltre was removed due to a hamstring injury.

Beltre had hit what looked like a sure double, but pulled up on his way to first base and immediately walked off the field after time was called. It wouldn't be shocking to see the 39-year-old miss some time due to the injury. Robinson is listed as fourth on the depth chart at third, but injuries elsewhere has necessitated a lineup adjustment that could pave the way for Robinson to play third for as long as Beltre needs. He has just four hits in his last 38 at-bats and is hitting just .175 for the season.

  • Josh Donaldson 3B | MIL

Blue Jays' Josh Donaldson: Nearing rehab assignment

Manager John Gibbons said Donaldson (shoulder) could embark on a minor-league rehab assignment later in the week, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Donaldson, who recently resumed throwing, continues to make solid progress as works his way back from inflammation in his throwing shoulder. The Blue Jays are expected to reevaluate him Wednesday, and if everything checks out, the stud third baseman could be cleared to return to game action by the end of the week. A timetable for his return to the big-league lineup will hopefully come into focus once he kicks off a rehab assignment.

  • Jace Peterson SS | ARI

Orioles' Jace Peterson: Plucked off waivers by Baltimore

Peterson was claimed off waivers by the Orioles on Tuesday.

Peterson was designated for assignment just two days ago by the Yankees, but he already has a new home. The utility man will report to Baltimore on Wednesday, presumably to fill a bench role for the big-league club. To make room for him on the 40-man roster, Gabriel Ynoa (shoulder) was placed on the 60-day disabled list.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Single short of cycle

Moncada went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and three runs scored in Monday's 10-4 win over the Mariners.

It was a big hitting night for the entire White Sox lineup, ignited by Moncada, who tripled to start the game, then doubled in the second and homered in the fourth. He had a couple more opportunities to complete the cycle, but fell short. There have been some hiccups along the way, but Moncada is in a good stretch right now. Over the last seven games, he's hitting .346 (9-for-26) with two doubles, a triple, three home runs, seven RBI and four stolen bases. He's showing signs of the multi-category offensive threat that was predicted of him when he left Cuba for the States.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Mariners' Jean Segura: Another multi-hit performance Sunday

Segura went 2-for-5 with an RBI single and two runs in a loss to the Rangers on Sunday.

Segura's timely hit in the fifth brought home Ben Gamel and opened the scoring on the afternoon for the Mariners. The hot-hitting infielder operated out of the leadoff spot with Dee Gordon getting the day off due to a sore foot and generated his ninth multi-hit game of April in the process. Segura has also been particularly timely with his hits recently, as he's compiled six of his 13 RBI on the season over his last four games.

  • Tigers' Jeimer Candelario: Scores twice Sunday

Candelario went 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored in Sunday's loss to the Royals.

Candelario's hit was a double, his fifth of the season. Over the last seven games, Candelario has delivered four multi-hit performances and is hitting .277 with an .849 OPS after 20 outings this season.
