Rays' Matt Duffy: Two hits in Friday's loss

Duffy went 2-for-4 in Friday's 2-0 loss to the Orioles.

The Rays only scraped together seven hits on the night, but Duffy didn't seem to have any difficulties, putting together his third multi-hit performance in the last five games. The 27-year-old now sports a .322/.364/.420 slash line on the season, but his counting stats have left a lot to be desired as he has two homers, two steals, 15 RBI and 10 runs in 36 games. Duffy will need to stay off the disabled list, and work his way up into a better spot in the Rays' batting order, if he's going to turn those hits into meaningful production.

  • Tigers' Jeimer Candelario: Returns from DL

Candelario (wrist) was reinstated from the 10-day disabled list Friday.

Candelario will return to action after being placed on the disabled list May 14 with a wrist issue. The 24-year-old third baseman has put together a .272/.359/.497 slash line with five homers and 16 RBI over 37 games this season for Detroit. Mikie Mahtook was sent down to Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move.

Rays' Matt Duffy: Productive in Thursday's win

Duffy went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and a run in a win over the Red Sox on Thursday.

Duffy closed out the scoring on the night with a fourth-inning single that extended the Rays' lead to a commanding 6-0 at the time. The 27-year-old has yet to contribute much from a power perspective, but he's hitting safely and getting on base at a career-best clip. Factoring in Thursday's production, Duffy's May average is up to a blistering .328, and he's now racked up eight multi-hit efforts during the month.

  • Alex Bregman 3B | CHC

Astros' Alex Bregman: Drives in four

Bregman went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and a run scored Thursday against the Indians.

Bregman extended his hitting streak to eight games in fashion, as he took Mike Clevinger deep in the fifth inning for a three-run home run. It was Bregman's fifth home run this season, and second in five games. Though his season-long numbers still don't match his lofty draft day cost, he has picked up his pace of late scoring six runs, driving in seven and stealing two bases during his current hit streak.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Mariners' Jean Segura: Reaches base three times

Segura went 3-for-4 with a run scored Thursday against the Athletics.

After going hitless Wednesday night, Segura bounced back Thursday with three singles. The depleted Mariners' lineup could only bring him around to score once, though he has now scored eight runs in his past 10 games. His hot start to the season has continued, and he remains among the American League leaders in stolen bases, runs scored and batting average.

  • Pedro Alvarez 3B | MIA

Orioles' Pedro Alvarez: Takes advantage of chance to start

Alvarez went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored Thursday against the White Sox.

With Mark Trumbo (knee) still sidelined and a right-hander on mound, Alvarez got his second chance to start in the Orioles' series against the White Sox. He took advantage by getting on base three times. Overall, the story remains the same for Alvarez as he is slugging .484, but striking out at a 24 percent clip in 93 at-bats this season.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Mariners' Jean Segura: Scores go-ahead run in win

Segura went 1-for-5 and scored the go-ahead run in an extra-inning win over the Athletics on Tuesday.

Segura capped off an eventful night for the Mariners by hustling home all the way from first base on a Guillermo Heredia double in the visitors' half of the 10th. The shortstop was able to beat a relay throw and slide through Jonathan Lucroy, jamming his left shoulder on the backstop's leg in the process. Segura laid briefly behind home plate after the play and was checked out by a trainer before returning to the dugout and then taking the field for the bottom half of the frame. Factoring in Tuesday's production, the talented shortstop boasts a five-game hitting streak as well as a .337 average for the month of May.

  • Alex Bregman 3B | CHC

Astros' Alex Bregman: Extends hit streak

Bregman went 2-for-4 with a walk, two doubles, two RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's 11-2 win over the Giants.

Bregman extended his hitting streak to six games (8-for-23, four extra-base hits) and has reached base safely in 17 of 19 games during the month of May. That shouldn't come as too much of a surprise as it was during May when he started to bust out last season. He's slashing .286/.383/.529 this month, raising his season line to .270/.381/.427. The Albuquerque native may be one of those players whose bat heats up as the weather does.

  • J.D. Davis 1B | LAA

Astros' J.D. Davis: Scores three runs without hit

Davis went 0-for-1 with three walks and scored three runs in Tuesday's 11-2 win over the Giants.

Davis got the nod in left field Tuesday, his first game with the Astros since being called up Sunday from Triple-A Fresno. He broke camp with the big-league club while Yulieski Gurriel recovered from a hand injury and didn't show much; however, he hit everything back at Fresno in the Pacific Coast League and deserved this most recent callup. It's probably too much to expect that he permanently dislodges Marwin Gonzalez, but there's an opportunity for at-bats as Gonzalez (.225) and Josh Reddick (.227) have been inconsistent at best. Manager A.J. Hinch is not afraid to sit an under-performing regular.

  • Alex Bregman 3B | CHC

Astros' Alex Bregman: Multi-hit game with two RBI

Bregman went 2-for-4 with two RBI, two doubles, a run and a stolen base in Tuesday's win over the Giants.

Bregman got an RBI double in the third off starter Andrew Suarez, and recorded another RBI double in the sixth off reliever Reyes Moronta. Bregman is now riding a nice six-game hitting streak and has brought his average up to .270. The 24-year-old's 16 doubles are tied for fourth in the majors.
