Matt Chapman 3B | SF
Athletics' Matt Chapman: Expected back Friday
Manager Bob Melvin said Chapman will play Friday against the Yankees, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Chapman was struck in the helmet by a pitch during Wednesday's 6-4 loss to the Royals. He was cleared of any concussion symptoms, however, and appears poised to rejoin the lineup Friday after entering Thursday's series finale in the ninth inning as a defensive replacement. Through 23 games in August, Chapman is slashing .244/.337/.570 with seven home runs and seven doubles.

Alex Bregman 3B | CHC
Astros' Alex Bregman: On fire in August
Bregman went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI in Wednesday's 8-6 win over the Rays.
Bregman has opened the series with Tampa Bay with back-to-back three-hit outings and has recorded at least two hits in all but one of his past six starts. The 25-year-old has been the majors' top hitter in August, slashing an incredible .420/.500/.807 with six home runs, 28 RBI and 26 runs in 23 games while striking out in just 7.8 percent of his plate appearances.

Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA
White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Strikeouts mounting
Moncada went 1-for-4 with a run scored in Wednesday's 8-2 loss.
Though he was able to end his three-game hitless streak with a single to deep right in the fourth inning, Moncada otherwise endured another tough night, striking out in his other three plate appearances. He's now struck out at least twice in four of his past five games, a disappointing development after he mashed four extra-base hits in his first two contests upon returning from the injured list last week. Manager Rick Renteria appears content to let Moncada work through his struggles, as the third baseman will remain in the cleanup spot for Thursday's series finale.

Matt Chapman 3B | SF
Athletics' Matt Chapman: Still clear of concussion symptoms
Chapman (head) is out of the lineup Thursday against the Royals but isn't dealing with any concussion symptoms and is expected to return to the lineup for the Athletics' weekend series with the Yankees, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Manager Bob Melvin noted that Chapman was originally scheduled to receive Thursday off regardless, but the decision became even easier after the third baseman was struck in the head by a pitch in Wednesday's 6-4 loss, forcing an early departure. Per Slusser, Chapman is still dealing with "a little bit of a headache," but his lack of concussion symptoms implies that his absence is mostly precautionary. Chad Pinder will man the hot corner in Chapman's stead in the series finale.

Athletics' Matt Chapman: Not starting Thursday
Chapman (head) is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Royals, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Though he was initially able to stay in the game, Chapman ultimately exited early in Wednesday's 6-4 loss after being struck on the helmet by a pitch. Manager Bob Melvin noted after the contest that Chapman passed all tests and wouldn't be subject to the concussion protocol, though the skipper acknowledged the star third baseman felt "a little blurry" upon departing from the contest, according to Slusser. Chad Pinder will cover third base in the series finale, but Chapman could be ready to rejoin the lineup Friday in the Athletics' series opener with the Yankees.

Rafael Devers 1B | SF
Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Homers, triples in win
Devers went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, a triple and two more runs scored during Wednesday's victory over the Rockies.
Devers tacked on an insurance run with a 434-foot solo homer in the ninth inning off Wes Parsons, increasing Boston's lead to 7-4. The talented 22-year-old also tripled and scored in the third, then singled and scored again in the fifth. Devers, who leads the American League with 104 RBI this season, has tallied 28 home runs along with a team-leading .324 batting average and 174 hits.

Athletics' Matt Chapman: Avoids concussion
Chapman experienced some slight blurriness after being hit by a pitch in the helmet Wednesday but didn't sustain a concussion, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
The specifics of the blurriness remain unclear, as Chapman remained in the contest for an additional inning, including hitting a hard lineout to center field. It seems as though the 26-year-old will avoid the injured list since he doesn't have a concussion, but he may still be held out of the lineup for Thursday afternoon's game.

DJ LeMahieu 2B | NYY
Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Posts fourth straight two-hit game
LeMahieu went 2-for-4 with a walk, a solo home run, another RBI and two runs scored overall in a 7-3 victory against the Mariners on Wednesday.
The 31-year-old has lost his lead in the AL batting title race, but he's hardly slumping with a .335 average. LeMahieu has posted four straight multi-hit games, and he already has set career highs in home runs and RBI while retaining a chance of establishing a new high-water mark in runs scored as well. LeMahieu has 23 home runs, 89 RBI, 93 runs and four steals in 499 at-bats this season.

Athletics' Matt Chapman: Removed following scary HBP
Chapman exited Wednesday's game at Kansas City after being hit in the head by a pitch, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Chapman appeared to be okay as he initially remained in the contest, but he didn't retake the field after lining out in the second inning. The pitch appeared to hit in the area of his helmet's left ear guard. Chad Pinder has taken over at third base for the A's.

Urshela started the game at third base and went 1-for-2 before exiting the contest. The exact severity of the injury is unclear, but the 27-year-old believes he'll be able rejoin the lineup following Thursday's scheduled off day, per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.
