  • Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Expected to sit again Tuesday

Manager Ron Roenicke said after Monday's game it's doubtful Devers (ankle) will start Tuesday, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

After tweaking his ankle Sunday, Devers was held out of the starting nine Monday and did not end up appearing off the bench. Jonathan Arauz drew the start at third base in his absence. Devers will meet with the medical staff Tuesday and should be considered day-to-day until the results of his evaluation are announced.

  • Tigers' Jeimer Candelario: Collects two hits in win

Candelario went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, a run scored and an RBI in Monday's 5-1 win over the White Sox.

Candelario has turned things around after starting the season by going 0-for-17 across his first five games. In six games since then, the Detroit third baseman has gone 10-for-22 with a home run, four runs scored and five RBI.

  • Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Dealing with sore ankle

Devers isn't starting Monday's game due to minor ankle soreness, Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald reports.

Manager Ron Roenicke revealed that Devers tweaked his ankle in Sunday's contest, so he'll be held out of the starting nine as a precaution. However, Roenicke didn't rule out the possibility of Devers serving as a pinch hitter in Monday's series opener against the Rays.

  • Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Not starting Monday

Devers isn't in the lineup for Monday's game against the Rays.

Devers went 1-for-12 with a solo home run and five strikeouts during the team's three-game series against the Blue Jays, and he'll get a breather Monday. Jonathan Arauz is starting at third base and batting ninth.

  • Patrick Wisdom 3B | SEA

Mariners' Patrick Wisdom: Removed from 40-man roster

Wisdom was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Monday.

Wisdom began the season at the Mariners' alternate training site, but he'll lose his spot on the 40-man roster to make room for right-hander Brady Lail, who was claimed off waivers by Seattle on Monday. Wisdom has been effective in the minors but carries a .224/.306/.408 slash line with four home runs, 11 RBI and 34 strikeouts over 41 major-league games with the Cardinals and Rangers.

  • Matt Chapman 3B | SF

Athletics' Matt Chapman: Goes yard again

Chapman went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a solo home run in a win over the Astros on Sunday.

Chapman has been busy making up for lost time after opening up August in a 4-for-26 funk. He subsequently went 6-for-14 with two doubles, two homers, four RBI and three runs in the three-game weekend set against the Astros, boosting his average 50 points to .246 in the process. A key has been simply making more consistent contact, as Chapman struck out on only three occasions against Houston after whiffing 10 times over the first six contests of the month.

  • Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Slugs second homer

Devers went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Sunday against the Blue Jays.

Devers had plenty of opportunity for production, coming to bat with runners on first and third and one out in the third inning, but he failed to produce. He made up for that in his next at-bat, driving a Matt Shoemaker offering out to the deepest part of Fenway Park for his second home run of the season. Production hasn't come easily to Devers through 62 plate appearances, as he's hitting just .175/.252/.351. The lack of success has led to Devers expanding the zone -- the young third baseman has a 42.4 chase percentage, per Statcast.

  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

    Angels' Anthony Rendon: Slump continues

Rendon went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout in Saturday's loss to the Rangers.

After homering in his first game as an Angel and notching a hit in four of his first six contests, Rendon has gone ice cold. He has failed to produce a base knock in each of his last five games, going 0-for-16 over that stretch. On the season, the team's prized offseason acquisition is hitting a paltry .111, though he has a healthy .373 OBP due to drawing 13 walks.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Bats leadoff Saturday

Moncada batted leadoff for the first time this season in Saturday's 7-1 loss to Cleveland. He went 1-for-5 with a solo home run.

Moncada has been entrenched at the second spot in the batting order -- that's where he primarily hit during his breakout 2019 season -- and no reason was given for him replacing Luis Robert, who hit well at leadoff the previous seven games. The home run was Moncada's third and extended his hitting streak to six games. He's hit safely in 11 of 14 games.

  • Gio Urshela 3B | MIN

Yankees' Gio Urshela: Drives in three runs

Urshela went 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored, three RBI and a walk as the Yankees split Saturday's doubleheader against the Rays.

The 28-year-old started at third base in both games of the twin bill and was a productive part of the offense in both contests. Urshela has a .341/.423/.636 slash line with three homers, 10 runs, 13 RBI and one stolen base in 14 games.
