  • Marcelo Mayer SS | BOS

Red Sox's Marcelo Mayer: First career multi-homer game

Mayer went 2-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Rays.

Wednesday marked the first multi-homer game of the 2021 first-rounder's major-league career. Mayer has been primarily working on the strong side of a platoon with Abraham Toro at third base, and the former is slowly beginning to flash his slugging potential. Mayer is slashing .250/.313/.523 with three long balls, four doubles and four RBI over 44 plate appearances, and he should continue to see the majority of the action at the hot corner as long as Alex Bregman (quadriceps) remains on the injured list.

  • Andy Lugo 3B | BOS

Twins' Andy Lugo: Dealt to Minnesota

The Red Sox traded Lugo to the Twins on Wednesday in exchange for Jorge Alcala, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Lugo has spent the entire season with the Red Sox's High-A affiliate, where he's slashed .265/.327/.430 with four homers, 20 RBI, 16 runs scored and four steals through 44 games. The 21-year-old infielder will likely remain in High-A upon moving to the Twins organization and will aim to join Double-A Wichita by the end of the season.

  • Ernie Clement SS | TOR

Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Dealing with lower body injury

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said after Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Cardinals that Clement is considered day-to-day with a lower body injury, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Clement was replaced by Addison Barger at third base in the ninth inning. The injury doesn't appear to be serious, and with the Blue Jays scheduled for a day off Thursday, Clement could be available for Friday's weekend opener against the Phillies. He went 3-for-4 with a double and a solo home run prior to being subbed out.

  • Royce Lewis 3B | MIN

Twins' Royce Lewis: Out of lineup Wednesday

Lewis is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Rangers.

Lewis has perked up offensively in June, going 8-for-22 with five RBI and a 4:5 K:BB. Despite that, he'll head to the bench for the fourth time this month. Brooks Lee will start at third base and bat eighth for the Twins on Wednesday.

  • Addison Barger SS | TOR

Blue Jays' Addison Barger: On bench Wednesday

Barger is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals.

The left-handed-hitting Barger hasn't been a strict platoon player for the Blue Jays this season, but he'll nonetheless head to the bench for Toronto's second straight matchup with a lefty (Matthew Liberatore), after Barger previously sat against Phillies southpaw Jesus Luzardo last Thursday. With Barger out of the lineup, Ernie Clement will cover third base and George Springer will occupy right field.

  • Orioles' Jordan Westburg: Goes yard in return

Westburg went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Tigers.

Activated off the injured list earlier in the day, Westburg took Detroit closer Will Vest deep in the ninth inning as Baltimore tried to mount a comeback. Westburg had been sidelined since April 26 due to a hamstring strain, but he'd been heating up at the plate prior to getting hurt -- over his last eight games, including Tuesday's performance, he's batting .313 (10-for-32) with two of his five homers on the year.

  • Josh Jung 3B | TEX

Rangers' Josh Jung: Busts out of slump with four RBI

Jung went 2-for-5 with a double, four RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's 16-4 victory over the Twins.

It was a much-needed rebound game for Jung, who had just two hits in his prior 27 at-bats before Tuesday. The four RBI matched a season high, and the third baseman is now slashing .259/.305/.406 with seven homers, eight doubles, 27 RBI and four stolen bases over 226 plate appearances this season. Jung's four steals through 58 games have already tied his career high in the category.

  • Orioles' Emmanuel Rivera: Designated for assignment

The Orioles designated Rivera for assignment Tuesday.

Rivera was already being used sparingly and his playing time was set to be cut even more with Jordan Westburg (hamstring) back in the fold. The 28-year-old has been outrighted previously, so he has the ability to elect free agency if he clears waivers again.

  • Orioles' Jordan Westburg: Reinstated from injured list

The Orioles activated Westburg from the 10-day injured list Tuesday.

Westburg is finally ready to rejoin the Orioles' lineup after being sidelined since late April with a left hamstring strain. He looked sharp in eight rehab games with Triple-A Norfolk, going 11-for-28 with a pair of home runs. Westburg will regain his status as the Orioles' everyday third baseman.

  • Gio Urshela 3B | ATH

Athletics' Gio Urshela: Starting rehab stint soon

Urshela (hamstring) is expected to be sent out on a minor-league rehab assignment later in the week, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Urshela, who was placed on the 10-day injured list May 23 due to a left hamstring strain, is set to begin a rehab stint with Triple-A Las Vegas. It's been just over two weeks since his last game action, so he should only need a handful of at-bats in the minors before the team feels comfortable activating him.
