    Twins activate Trevor Plouffe from concussion DL

    The Twins have activated third baseman Trevor Plouffe from the seven-day concussion disabled list, the club announced Wednesday.

    Plouffe took a knee to the head in the club's May 21 game against Atlanta. He passed concussion tests May 24 and will likely be inserted into the lineup for Wednesday's game against Milwaukee.

    Trevor Plouffe set to return Wednesday

    Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe (concussion) is on track to be activated off the disabled list Wednesday, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports Tuesday. 

    Minnesota will announce the corresponding roster move at that time. Plouffe has an eight-game hitting streak. 

  • Manny Machado tied for most hits in baseball

    Orioles third baseman Manny Machado had another three hits Monday in Washington. Machado doubled and singled twice and is currently tied with Miguel Cabrera for the major-league lead in hits. 

    Machado has 75 hits this season and is among the best hitters in baseball on the road. He went 3 for 5 and is now batting .335 on the year. He added a walk and stole his fifth base Monday. 

    The 20-year-old third baseman has gone 59 for 157 (.376) over his last 35 games with 19 doubles, two triples, four homers and 21 RBI. He also has all five steals over that span and has scored 25 runs. 

    Machado is among the American League's best in average and runs scored and is also leading the majors in doubles with 23.

    Manager tabs Josh Donaldson as A's best player

    Athletics manager Bob Melvin didn't hesitate Sunday when naming Josh Donaldson as the team's best player through 50 games, according to the Contra Costa Times. Donaldson has thrived in his first full season as the team's starting third baseman.

    "He’s taken the job, seized it, and I think he’s played more games than anybody on our team," Melvin said. "To this point in time, he’s probably been our most consistent player, offensively and defensively."

    Donaldson has committed four errors in 49 games at third base, while batting .322 with a .544 slugging percentage.

    "It’s just confidence," Melvin said. "He continues to swing the bat well and his confidence continues to grow. You look at his numbers he’s put up in the minor leagues and the ability’s always been there. The only thing that hasn’t been is the opportunity at the big-league level."

    Trevor Plouffe returning Wednesday

    Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe (concussion) is expected to be activated off the disabled list the first day he's eligible Wednesday against the Brewers, manager Ron Gardenhire said Sunday.

    When Plouffe returns, he will look to extend an eight-game hitting streak. He's batting .292 (19 for 65) with two home runs, six doubles and 13 RBI in 17 May games.

    Josh Donaldson reaches base five times vs. Astros

    Athletics third baseman Josh Donaldson enjoyed his second four-hit game of May and his third of the season during Saturday's contest against the Astros.

    Donaldson singled in the second, launched a solo home run in the fourth, reached on an infield single in the sixth and doubled in a run in the eighth. Donalson reached base five times and he finished 4 for 4 with a walk, two runs scored and two RBI in an 11-5 victory.

    Donaldson is hitting .389 (21 for 54) with four home runs and seven RBI in his last 15 games played. He has a .322/.398/.544 slash line in 180 at-bats.

    Orioles infielder Danny Valencia continued to hit well Saturday, homering for the second game in a row against the Blue Jays.

    Valencia had a two-run shot off starter R.A. Dickey in the third inning of a 6-5 loss. He finished 1 for 3 with a walk, two RBI and a run scored.

    Valencia is hitting .313 with at least a hit in his first four games. He has driven in four runs and scored three, with four extra-base hits.

    Trevor Plouffe passes concussion test

    Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe has passed a concussion test, MLB.com reports.

    Plouffe also did cardio work Friday without issue. He is expected to return from the seven-day concussion disabled list soon.

    Mike Olt cleared to return to action

    Rangers third base prospect Mike Olt has been cleared to return to game action, the Dallas Morning News reports.

    Olt has been dealing with a vision issue and has not played since April 25. He was prescribed eyedrops and other medication and his condition has improved. Olt will go to extended spring training to work his swing back into form and then return to Triple-A Round Rock. There is no firm timetable for his return.

  • Manny Machado has three doubles

    Orioles third baseman Manny Machado enjoyed his 10th multi-hit game of May during Thursday's 12-6 loss to the Blue Jays.

    Machado had three doubles, including a two-run hit in the third. He finished 3 for 4 with two RBI and became the only player since 1916 to have multiple three-double games before his 21st birthday.

    Machado has a .345/.368/.560 line with three home runs and 12 RBI in 20 May games. He is hitting .330 in 203 at-bats.
