  • Nolan Gorman 3B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Sits out Monday

Gorman is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Reds, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

The lefty-hitting Gorman will bow out of the lineup versus a right-hander (Chase Anderson), despite owning a .327 wOBA (113 wRC+) in those matchups so far during his rookie season. Gorman doesn't look to be in danger of losing out on his near-everyday role; instead, his absence from the lineup is likely a byproduct of the Cardinals wanting to give Paul Goldschmidt a day out of the field by using him at designated hitter.

  • Red Sox's Enrique Hernandez: On bench Monday

Hernandez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Twins, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Hernandez will get a break after he went 4-for-11 with a home run and a walk while starting in all three games of the Red Sox's weekend series versus the Rays. Franchy Cordero will replace Hernandez in center field, the primary position Hernandez is expected to play moving forward after second baseman Trevor Story returned from the 10-day injured list Saturday.

  • Blue Jays' Santiago Espinal: Remains on bench Monday

Espinal isn't in the lineup Monday against the Cubs.

Espinal went 2-for-10 with a run and a strikeout over his last three games and will be on the bench for a second consecutive matchup. Cavan Biggio is starting at the keystone and batting sixth.

  • Gavin Lux SS | TB

    Dodgers' Gavin Lux: Sitting Monday

Lux is not in the starting lineup for Monday's series finale against the Marlins, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

Lux will take a seat after he went 0-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and two strikeouts in his return to the lineup Sunday following a four-game absence with a neck issue. Hanser Alberto will draw the start at second base and bat ninth versus Miami.

  • Joseph Ortiz SS | MIL

Orioles' Joseph Ortiz: Moves up to Triple-A

Ortiz was promoted to Triple-A Norfolk on Monday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.

Ortiz earned his promotion to Triple-A after he batted .380 sith 11 home runs, 41 RBI, 40 runs and a stolen base over 137 at-bats in 34 games with Double-A Bowie since the All-Star break. The 24-year-old is now one step closer to making his big-league debut after being drafted in the fourth round of the 2019 MLB Draft.

  • Tigers' Harold Castro: Drives in five Sunday

Castro went 2-for-5 with a double and five RBI in Sunday's 9-8 win over the Rangers.

Castro drove in two runs on a fourth inning single, then cleared the bases on a double in the sixth. The 28-year-old has been playing well and is seeing regular time at first base with Spencer Torkelson in Triple-A. Torkelson still figures prominently into the team's future plans, so it remains to be seen what Castro's role will be beyond this year. He should still be a decent fantasy asset for the remainder of 2022, however.

  • Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC

Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Big game Sunday

Hoerner went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in Sunday's 9-7 loss to the Brewers.

Hoerner tallied his second three-hit game in the last week, raising his batting average to .293 in the process. The 25-year-old is establishing himself as a good contact hitter without a ton of power, as he has just 11 career home runs across parts of four seasons in the majors, though eight of those have come this year. If Hoerner can add to his power output again in 2023, he figures to take a step forward as a fantasy asset.

  • Ozzie Albies 2B | ATL

Braves' Ozzie Albies: Rehab assignment on tap

Albies (foot) is expected to begin a rehab assignment around the middle of this week, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Albies has been on the injured list since mid-June, but he ramped up his progression of baseball activities recently and has now been cleared for a rehab assignment, which will likely be the final step in his recovery process. The 25-year-old will likely need to spend considerable time in the minors given the length of his absence, so it's possible that he's not activated until around mid-September.

  • Michael Chavis 2B | CIN

Pirates' Michael Chavis: On base twice in win

Chavis went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in Sunday's win over the Phillies.

Chavis walked in his first at-bat but was stranded at second. He later singled in Bryan Reynolds and came around to score on a fielder's choice as the Pirates chased Noah Syndergaard in the sixth inning. Chavis, who has exactly one hit in seven of his last eight games, is now slashing .245/.277/.416 with 13 home runs on the season.

  • Luis Rengifo 3B | MIL

Angels' Luis Rengifo: Reaches double-digit home runs

Rengifo went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer in Sunday's win over the Blue Jays.

Rengifo took Ross Stripling deep to right with Shohei Ohtani on base in the third inning to put the Angels up 2-0. Los Angeles would not look back as it won the game 8-3. Rengifo has a modest six-game hitting streak and could be a productive middle infield option in deep leagues down the stretch, as he is slashing .268/.300/.427 on the season.
