Forsythe is playing third base and batting leadoff Tuesday against the Cardinals, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Now that Forsythe is back from an extended stay on the disabled list, it appears he will reclaim his spot atop the order for the Dodgers, even against righties. The 30-year-old, who was slashing .295/.407/.341 in 44 at-bats before landing on the DL, will face off against Lance Lynn in his return to the lineup.

Forsythe (toe) was activated from the 10-day disabled list Tuesday.

As expected, Forsythe was activated ahead of Tuesday's series opener with the Cardinals after missing the last 30 games. Pitcher Josh Ravin was optioned to Triple-A to clear room on the roster for Forsythe. He'll take over at third base for the time being, though he'll eventually switch back to second base once Justin Turner (hamstring) is back.

Motter will play first base and bat sixth in Tuesday's game against the Nationals, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.

Motter was originally slated to watch the game from the dugout, but with Danny Valencia (wrist) being scratched from the contest, Motter was thrust into action. The 27-year-old utility man could see some extra playing time while Valencia is sidelined, but he could see the bench more frequently now that Robinson Cano is back from injury.

Motter is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Nationals, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.

Motter has been a mainstay in the Mariners lineup for the past few weeks thanks to some injury woes plaguing Seattle, but with Robinson Cano returning from the DL and no DH available in Washington, Motter will head to the bench for a night off. The 27-year-old utility man has been struggling at the plate over the past few weeks, as he's batting just .200 over his past 30 games, so even when the Mariners return to American League action, it seems like he'll sit out more often than not until another injury strikes the Mariners' regulars.

Since being demoted to Triple-A Sacramento, Tomlinson has started all three games in center field, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

This is an interesting development when you consider the Giants' struggles to produce consistent options in center behind Denard Span (thumb), who has proven to be an injury risk this season. Tomlinson has spent the majority of his early career as an infield utility option, but he did log 25 major-league innings in left field over the past two seasons, so he may not need an extended period of time to get comfortable to the new position. If he were to be recalled in the event Span landed on the disabled list, the 26-year-old would profile as a traditional center fielder based on his ability to hit for contact (.294) and generate steals (12) in 340 career plate appearances.

Alvarez is on the 7-day DL at Double-A Springfield with a high-ankle sprain and is expected to miss 3-to-4 weeks, Derek Shore of TheCardinalNation.com reports.

He was hitting .231/.324/.341 with two home runs and five steals (on six attempts) in 105 plate appearances prior to the injury. This was a pretty aggressive assignment for Alvarez, as he skipped High-A completely. His 32.4 percent strikeout rate shows that he was having significant growing pains against Double-A pitching, as he had never posted a strikeout rate north of 20 percent prior to this season. The move is retroactive to May 16, so Alvarez could return sometime in early to mid June.

Young is on the 7-day DL at Triple-A Iowa with an undisclosed injury.

A 24-year-old second baseman, Young has a knack for making consistent content, but his hit-over-power profile is unlikely to ever profile in a regular role for a first-division team like the Cubs. He was hitting .297/.329/.342 with zero home runs and three steals (on five attempts) in 155 at-bats.

Barreto, who's slashing .314/.362/.500 over 41 games with Triple-A Nashville, is expected to be the first call-up this summer if it becomes evident the Athletics are out of playoff contention, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. "I'm impressed with how well (Barreto) is starting to turn on pitches. He's very aggressive on the bases and he's consistent defensively," one National League scout said. "I still see him as an offensive second baseman - Oakland will be much better with him at second in the second half."

The promising infielder has 203 plate appearances at the Triple-A level between last season and 2017, so he's certainly had a solid amount of seasoning. Barreto has been playing shortstop for the Sounds, but with Marcus Semien (wrist) slated to come off the disabled list in mid June, there will not be a vacancy at the position with the big-league club. Barreto's arrival would presumably be preceded by the trade of veteran Jed Lowrie, who presently occupies second base and is enjoying his best season since 2013.

Altuve went 1-for-4 with a first-inning RBI double that proved to be the difference in Monday's 1-0 victory over Detroit.

Altuve's ninth double of the season surprisingly held up on a night when the Astros deployed a committee of pitchers to fill in for Dallas Keuchel (neck). The second baseman is riding an eight-game hitting streak that includes seven extra-base hits (three doubles, two triples, and two homers), seven RBI and five runs. It's safe to say Altuve is running hot right now.

Drury is not in the lineup Monday against the White Sox, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Drury is slumping at the plate as of late (4-for-25 in his past seven games), so he'll get a night off to right the ship. Daniel Descalso will take a turn at the keystone in his stead.
