Urias (hamstring) could return to the lineup Thursday against the Rangers, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

He went through a scheduled workout Wednesday uninhibited and it sounds like he could return Thursday if he feels fine. Urias was scratched from Tuesday's game due to general fatigue in both hamstrings, which was a concerning diagnosis, given that he spent much of the offseason recovering from a significant hamstring injury that ended his 2018 season. We will need to see him get a string of spring games under his belt before comfortably putting the issue in the rearview mirror.

The Tigers signed Motter (face) to a minor-league contract Wednesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

The 29-year-old recently took part in a tryout camp for the Tigers, who evidently felt he could provide some value to the organization as a utility man. Motter is likely reporting to spring training too late to have a realistic shot at cracking the Opening Day roster, but he could merit a callup at some point in 2019 if he shows well at Triple-A Toledo. He saw action in 17 games in the majors last season between the Twins and Mariners and owns a .191/.263/.312 slash line (58 wRC+) over 411 career plate appearances in the big leagues.

Franklin has yet to play in the Grapefruit League because of right hamstring tightness, John Perrotto of DK Pittsburgh Sports reports.

The non-roster invitee is fighting an uphill battle to make the Opening Day roster. Although he's taking part in baseball activities and getting close to making his spring debut, Franklin will likely start the 2019 campaign in Triple-A.

Frazier went 1-for-3 with an RBI double in his Grapefruit League debut Tuesday.

The Pirates limited him to simulated games for the first two weeks of camp, as they did with a number of starters. Frazier figures to bat leadoff during the regular season and should score plenty of runs. He slashed .306/.357/.503 in his final 196 plate appearances in 2018, but has yet to put together a complete season. With Josh Harrison no longer on the team's roster, Frazier will get every chance to prove his worth in 2019.

Fortunately for the young shortstop, X-rays on his hand returned negative, so he's merely dealing with some soreness and swelling that should dissipate within a few days.

Chavis booted a grounder at first base Sunday, the second time he's failed to make a routine play this spring, Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald reports.

Manager Alex Cora has been pleased with Chavis' bat -- he hit his fourth spring homer Sunday -- and his defense at third base, but making him into a utility infielder is going slow. "That's a first-pitch slider in the zone, and he hits it straight center so we know he can hit," Cora said before shifting to the defense. "Today he muffed one at first base, that's the second one. At this level, when it's a double play we have to turn double plays. When it's a routine play, we have to make routine plays, so we'll work with it." Chavis will continue to get work at second base as well, but only on the backfields, not in spring games.
