Braves' Gordon Beckham: Gets the day off Sunday

Beckham is out of the lineup Sunday against the Rockies.

Since returning to action prior to the All-Star break, Beckham has started five of the last six contests overall for the Braves, primarily at second base. It will be Jace Peterson that gets the starting nod at the keystone Sunday, batting leadoff in the order.

  • Diamondbacks' Brandon Drury: Out of Friday's lineup

Drury is out of Friday's lineup against the Dodgers.

It appears the Diamondbacks wanted to load up the lineup with lefties Friday against righty Bud Norris, even though Drury had started the last seven games before the All-Star break. He notched eight hits and five of the extra-base variety over that stretch, and figures to be in the lineup most days going forward. Chris Herrmann will start in left field and hit sixth Friday.

  • Giants' Kelby Tomlinson: Optioned to Triple-A Sacramento

Tomlinson (thumb) completed his rehab assignment and was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports.

Tomlinson slashed .121/.171/.152 over 33 at-bats during his rehab assignment at the Triple-A level. Due to his poor performance he'll stay in the minors while he adjusts his swing.

Giants' Grant Green: Out of Sunday's lineup

Green is out of the lineup Sunday as the Giants take on the Diamondbacks.

Green had been putting up solid numbers for the Giants, having gone 9-for-30 across eight games. However, he'll be replaced by Ramiro Pena at second base for Sunday's contest. With Joe Panik (concussion) expected to return shortly after the All-Star break, Green will likely make much fewer appearances in the lineup in the coming weeks.

Giants' Grant Green: Continues to excel in everyday role

Green went 1-for-2 with a two-run homer in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Diamondbacks.

Green has been seeing regular playing time at second with Joe Panik (concussion) sidelined and has been taking advantage of it with a .300/.344/.433 slash line in 32 plate appearances. While it is a small sample size, he was slashing .294/.321/.437 with Triple-A Sacramento this season, so the former first-round draft pick may have finally "figured it out" at age 28.

Braves' Gordon Beckham: Out of lineup Sunday

Beckham is not in the lineup for Sunday's series finale against the White Sox, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan reports.

Beckham will get a regular day off after starting the past three games. He was activated off the disabled list prior to Thursday's game and will get an extra day of rest before the All-Star break begins. In his place, the Braves will start Jace Peterson at second.

  • Padres' Yangervis Solarte: Stays hot with two-run homer Saturday

Solarte went 1-for-4 with a first-inning two-run homer in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Dodgers.

The dynamic third baseman continues to impress, with the homer bringing his July total in that category to four over just 36 at-bats. Solarte now has half of his season total of round-trippers during the current month, and has already surpassed his June RBI total in only nine contests. His monthly line is now at .389/.450/.861 following Saturday's effort and he carries a seven-game hitting streak into the final game before the All-Star break.

  • Phillies' Darnell Sweeney: Struggling at Triple-A

Sweeney is hitting .231/.293/.358 with five home runs and nine stolen bases in 268 at-bats for Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Sweeney was acquired from the Dodgers last season as part of the trade that sent Chase Utley to Los Angeles. His struggles this season could put his 40-man roster spot in jeopardy this offseason. The Phillies could trade Andres Blanco this month which would open up a roster spot for a utility player, but Taylor Featherston might be the choice to replace Blanco if the veteran gets dealt.

Braves' Gordon Beckham: Hits third homer of year Saturday

Beckham went 1-for-3 with a solo homer, a walk and two runs Saturday at the White Sox.

Beckham's third blast of the year gave the Braves a 1-0 lead in the first inning of a game they'd eventually lose. Since returning from the disabled list, he's now collected four hits in 12 at-bats, and he's slashing .290/.387/.458 over 158 at-bats on the year.

Braves' Gordon Beckham: Gets activated from DL

Beckham (hamstring) was activated from the DL and will start at shortstop Thursday against the Cubs, Kevin McAlpin of BravesRadioNet reports.

Beckham is making his first major league start since June 1 after being sidelined with a hamstring strain. The third baseman played in six rehab games between rookie ball and High-A recently, collecting seven hits over 18 at-bats along with three runs and three RBI. He'll likely enter into a platoon role with Adonis Garcia at third base but could also see some starts at shortstop going forward. To make room on the roster, Emilio Bonifacio was DFA'd.
