Alex Freeland 2B | LAD
Dodgers' Alex Freeland: Recalled from OKC
The Dodgers recalled Freeland from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday.
Freeland will return to Los Angeles to replace Enrique Hernandez, who is set to miss several weeks due to a severe left oblique strain. Freeland is expected to split reps at second base with Hyeseong Kim, though manager Dave Roberts said Wednesday that the former has earned a bit more runway and will therefore receive the lion's share of opportunities, per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.

Matt McLain 2B | CIN
Reds' Matt McLain: Handed night off
McLain is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets.
The Reds will give Spencer Steer a look at second base while McLain takes a seat after starting in the team's last three games. Though McLain has most commonly been deployed out of the No. 2 spot this season, he's made his last two starts as the Reds' No. 9 hitter while manager Terry Francona has handed the hot-hitting Blake Dunn more opportunities near the top of the lineup. McLain's slide down the batting order coincides with him recording just three hits and striking out 11 times in 34 at-bats over his last eight games.

Nasim Nunez 2B | WAS
Nationals' Nasim Nunez: Hitting bench Wednesday
Nunez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Guardians.
Jorbit Vivas will fill in at second base for Nunez, who went 6-for-30 with a pair of steals, two RBI and three runs while starting in each of the last eight games. Nunez continues to be a drain in batting average (.189 over 164 at-bats) and hasn't hit a home run this season, but his MLB-leading 22 stolen bases have enabled him to maintain fantasy relevance.

Alex Freeland 2B | LAD
Dodgers' Alex Freeland: Set to rejoin big club
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after Tuesday's 15-6 win over the Rockies that Freeland will be recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to Wednesday's series finale, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports.
Freeland will be rejoining the 26-man active roster as a replacement for Enrique Hernandez, who will be headed back to the shelf after straining his oblique just two days after being reinstated from the 60-day injured list. The Dodgers designated Santiago Espinal for assignment to clear room on the roster for Hernandez, so the addition of Freeland will strengthen the club's infield depth. After breaking camp with the big club, Freeland slashed .235/.309/.337 with two home runs and eight RBI through 33 games before the Dodgers optioned him to Triple-A on May 11, when shortstop Mookie Betts returned from a stint on the IL. During his upcoming stint with Los Angeles, Freeland is likely to occupy the short side of a platoon at second base with Hyeseong Kim or at third base with Max Muncy (wrist).

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Adds insurance with homer
Marte went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 7-5 win over the Giants.

The surge has him batting .273 with an .802 OPS on the year, and he's added nine homers, 32 RBI, 34 runs scored, 11 doubles, two triples and zero stolen bases over 51 contests. Arraez is taking a seat for the first time since May 6, which is when he sat due to a sore thumb. Since then, the infielder has a slashed .324/.397/.485 across 17 games. While the left-handed bat of Arraez takes a seat Tuesday, Casey Schmitt will start at second while Bryce Eldridge serves as the designated hitter.

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Stays hot with four-hit day
Marte went 4-for-5 with a double, three RBI and a run scored in Monday's 6-2 win over the Giants.
Marte continued his unbelievable hot streak by piling up four more hits, giving him 10 over his last three games alone. The veteran second baseman has now hit safely in nine straight contests and has been one of baseball's hottest hitters during that stretch, batting .568 with six doubles, three homers and 15 RBI. After a sluggish start to the season, Marte has raised his slash line all the way to .275/.327/.470.

Marcus Semien 2B | NYM
Mets' Marcus Semien: Slaps fourth long ball in loss
Semien went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's loss to the Reds.
Semien finally got the Mets on the board in the sixth inning, leading off the frame with a solo homer off Nick Lodolo after the left-hander had silenced New York's lineup through the first five frames. The blast was Semien's fourth homer of the season and a much-needed encouraging sign amid a recent slump. Entering Monday, the veteran infielder was batting just .158 with an ugly .171 OBP over his previous 10 games.

Dodgers' Tommy Edman: Starting rehab assignment Tuesday
Edman (ankle) will start his rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Oklahoma City, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports.
Edman has been slowly progressing in his recovery from right ankle surgery that he underwent in the offseason. The 31-year-old is ready to take the next step by embarking on a rehab assignment and will spend at least the next three weeks with Oklahoma City, where he's expected to see the majority of his opportunities at second base, according to David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports. If all goes to plan, Edman could be back with the Dodgers by mid-June, per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.
