  • Alec Bohm 3B | PHI

Phillies' Alec Bohm: Expected to mostly stay at 3B

Bohm will remain the Phillies' primary third baseman rather than shift over to first base following the injury to Darick Hall (thumb), Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Bohm could see some starts at first base against left-handers, but the plan is to mostly leave him at third. Kody Clemens is slated to see the lion's share of starts at first base versus righties and Edmundo Sosa and Josh Harrison should also see an uptick in playing time.

  • Kody Clemens 1B | MIN

Phillies' Kody Clemens: Will be regular 1B versus righties

Clemens will be the Phillies' regular first baseman against right-handed pitching following the injury to Darick Hall (thumb), Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Alec Bohm could slide over from third base some against left-handers, but the plan is to mostly leave him at the hot corner. It's a great opportunity for Clemens but it's probably a stretch to think he can be a viable regular at first base. It wouldn't be a surprise to see the Phillies ultimately add help from outside the organization.

  • Darick Hall 1B | PIT

Phillies' Darick Hall: Needs thumb surgery

Hall will undergo surgery next week to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Hall said he expects to return at some point later this season, but a clearer timetable should be made available after the procedure. It's a major blow to a Phillies team which has already lost Rhys Hoskins (knee) for the season. Kody Clemens is starting at first base Friday and is expected to play there regularly versus righties, with Alec Bohm possible shifting over against lefties. The Phils might also have no choice at this point but to look for help outside the organization.

  • Kody Clemens 1B | MIN

Phillies' Kody Clemens: Starting at first base Friday

Clemens is starting at first base and batting eighth for the Phillies in Friday's home opener against the Reds.

The Phils are throwing Clemens right into the lineup after recalling him from Triple-A Lehigh Valley earlier in the day. He could see a good amount of playing time at first base and other positions while Darick Hall (thumb) is out. Alec Bohm will likely slide over from third to first base some days, but he'll stay at the hot corner for this one.

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Blasts second homer

Guerrero went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Thursday's win over the Royals.

The first baseman has been locked in to begin the season. Guerrero's .407 batting average (11-for-27) through seven games is impressive and comes with two homers, a steal, five runs and six RBI, but he also boasts an eye-popping 5:1 BB:K. With hits in five straight games and homers in two straight, the 24-year-old seems poised to put together a massive month of April.

  • Matt Olson 1B | ATL

Braves' Matt Olson: On base three times against Friars

Olson went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, a run scored and two RBI in Thursday's win over the Padres.

The first baseman continues to rake to begin the season. Through seven games, Olson is batting ,333 (10-for-30) with four doubles, three homers, seven runs and nine RBI. His 3:12 BB:K is mildly concerning, but it's hard to argue with the results when he's making contact -- he's currently second in MLB in average exit velocity at an even 100.0 mph.

  • Kody Clemens 1B | MIN

Phillies' Kody Clemens: Recalled from Triple-A

Clemens was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley by the Phillies on Friday.

He's replacing Darick Hall (thumb) on the roster and could see a decent amount of playing time with the Phillies' corner infield depth being tested. Clemens struggled mightily with the Tigers last season, posting a .505 OPS over 56 games.

  • Darick Hall 1B | PIT

Phillies' Darick Hall: Lands on injured list

Hall was placed on the 10-day injured list by the Phillies on Friday, retroactive to April 6, with a right thumb sprain.

Hall injured his thumb on a slide into second base during Wednesday's game versus the Yankees. It's not clear at this point how long he might be out, but the fact that the Phillies are classifying it as a sprain suggests it could be a multi-week absence. Alec Bohm figures to see a lot of starts at first base while Hall is sidelined, with Edmundo Sosa, Josh Harrison and Kody Clemens picking up more playing time at third base.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Smacks homer Thursday

Flores went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run, an additional run scored and a walk in Thursday's 16-6 win over the White Sox.

Flores hasn't had steady playing time so far, as the Giants have enjoyed relatively good health in the infield. He got the start at first base over LaMonte Wade on Thursday, even with righty Lance Lynn on the mound. Flores has made the most of his opportunities, going 4-for-11 with three walks and two extra-base hits in his limited action across four games this season.

  • Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Slugs first homer of 2023

Freeman went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, a double and an additional run in Thursday's 5-2 victory versus Arizona.

Freeman has reached base in all but one of the Dodgers' seven games this season, but prior to Thursday he had notched just one extra-base hit. The star first baseman changed that trajectory against Arizona, hitting a double in the third inning and his first homer of the year in the seventh. Freeman surprisingly has just one RBI on the campaign despite a standout .385/.500/.577 slash line.
