Votto (lower leg) is expected to complete a workout early Wednesday before the Reds make a decision on whether to activate him ahead of their game against the Brewers later in the day, the Associated Press reports.

Votto was spotted on the field prior to Tuesday's game and took grounders at first base while doing some running and sliding. The 34-year-old had been hobbled by a bad bruise on his right leg since the first week of the month before the Reds finally elected to shut him down Aug. 16. His recent on-field activity suggests that he's made some progress in his recovery, but the non-contending Reds aren't likely to activate Votto unless they're convinced he's close to 100 percent healthy.

Olson went 1-for-3 with a walk and a three-run homer in Tuesday's win over the Astros.

Olson smashed a long home run -- his 24th of the year -- off Charlie Morton in the third inning to give Oakland a two-run lead at the time. Olson is hitting .238/.324/.447 on the year with 64 RBI while his 24 home runs and 67 runs both rank within the top five among MLB first basemen. While he has hit just three home runs over his last 33 games, the 24-year-old has slashed 13 doubles and recorded 15 RBI over that span.

Cooper will undergo surgery to repair his right wrist tendon Friday, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports.

Cooper has been out since late July after spraining his right wrist. The recovery time for the surgery is not yet clear.

Walker was recalled by the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old has hit a modest .208/.296/.375 with one home run in 20 games at the big-league level this season. He posted solid numbers with Triple-A Reno, hitting .299/.354/.568 with 18 homers in 84 games. Matt Andriese was optioned to High-A Visalia in a corresponding move.

Flores is not starting Tuesday against the Cubs.

Flores will sit for the second time in three games, with Jay Bruce again starting at first base. It's possible that the right-handed Flores and the left-handed Bruce will form a platoon going forward.

O'Hearn is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Tigers, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.

O'Hearn has started nine straight games, hitting .281/.324/.656 with three homers over that stretch, but he'll head to the bench Tuesday with a lefty (Matt Boyd) on the mound for the Tigers. The 25-year-old is just 1-for-20 against southpaws this season. Jorge Bonifacio will serve as the designated hitter in his place.

Votto was initially reported to be eyeing a return after the minimum 10 days Sunday. When that fell through, it sounded as though he'd likely be back Tuesday, but Votto apparently remains unready. It's unclear how many more days the Reds expect him to miss.

Alonso will not be called up when rosters expand in September, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Alonso has done all he can this season to earn a call up, hitting .277/.393/.560 with 33 homers in 125 games for Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Las Vegas, but he won't get to make his big-league debut until next season. The Mets' stated reason is that Wilmer Flores, Jay Bruce and Dominic Smith will be playing first base.

Calhoun went 3-for-4 with a double, stolen base and a run Monday in the Angels' 10-7 triumph over the Rockies.

Perhaps no everyday player has provided as extreme first- and second-half splits this season as Calhoun, who had likely hit the waiver wire in most fantasy formats after rolling into the All-Star break with a .187 average and only 15 extra-base hits through 75 contests. Calhoun's handy glovework in the outfield -- along with a lack of appealing alternatives -- prompted the Angels to give him a long leash in his full-time role, and he has rewarded the team's patience with a huge post-break performance. Through 34 second-half games, Calhoun has slashed .306/.382/.567 with eight home runs, 28 runs and 25 RBI, allowing him to seize control of the leadoff role.

White is hitting .457 (16-for-35) with two home runs and 14 RBI over his last 10 games at High-A Modesto.

The 22-year-old first baseman also has nine walks, a pair of stolen bases and 10 runs over that span, providing a glimpse of his impressive all-around offensive repertoire. White is slashing .298/.366/.452 with 43 extra-base hits (25 doubles, seven triples, 11 homers) and 62 RBI over 506 plate appearances with the Nuts in 2018.
