  • Anthony Rizzo 1B | NYY

Cubs' Anthony Rizzo: Exits with back issue

Rizzo was removed from Sunday's game against the Dodgers due to left lower back tightness, Russell Dorsey of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Rizzo went 0-for-2 with a strikeout to begin Sunday's contest, and he was replaced defensively in the bottom of the fourth inning. The first baseman has dealt with back issues in recent seasons, and he missed six games at the end of May due to back stiffness. It's not yet clear whether his most recent injury will force him to miss additional time.

  • Orioles' Ryan Mountcastle: Homers in loss

Mountcastle went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Blue Jays.

Mountcastle put the Orioles on the board with his solo home run in the top of the first inning, but he left four runners on base in the loss. He's now reached base in each of the last four games, and he's hit .341 with eight home runs, 21 RBI and 14 runs across 23 games in June.

  • P.J. Higgins C | CIN

Cubs' P.J. Higgins: Nature of surgery clarified

Higgins will undergo right forearm flexor tendon repair in the near future, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Higgins was initially expected to undergo Tommy John surgery, but he'll undergo a different procedure in the coming days. However, the 28-year-old is still expected to miss the remainder of the 2021 season, and he could also be sidelined to begin the 2022 campaign.

  • Josh Naylor 1B | SEA

Indians' Josh Naylor: Dealing with fracture

Manager Terry Francona said Naylor suffered an unspecified leg fracture during Sunday's loss to the Twins, and the specifics of the injury remain unclear, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

The 24-year-old was carted off the field after colliding with teammate Ernie Clement while pursuing a pop fly in shallow right field, and it's now confirmed he's managing a serious injury. It's safe to assume Naylor will be placed on the injured list, but the length of his absence won't be known until a more specific diagnosis is announced.

  • Pete Alonso 1B | BAL

Mets' Pete Alonso: Three hits, one RBI in loss

Alonso went 3-for-4 with an RBI in Sunday's 4-2 loss to Philadelphia.

The first baseman got the Mets on the board with an RBI single in the eighth inning to plate Francisco Lindor. Alonso has hit safely in eight of his last 10 games, going 12-for-34 (.353) with a home run, two RBI, a run scored and a stolen base in that span. Despite the lack of counting stats recently, he's still put together a solid season with 11 home runs, 36 RBI, 31 runs scored and a steal while slashing .261/.345/.450 across 255 plate appearances.

  • Jose Abreu 1B | HOU

White Sox's Jose Abreu: Not starting Game 2

Abreu (knee) isn't starting Sunday's Game 2 against the Mariners.

Abreu was unable to put any weight on his left leg after he was hit by a pitch in the first game Sunday, and he underwent X-rays that came back negative. He'll take a seat for the nightcap as Yasmani Grandal shifts to first base while Zack Collins starts at catcher.

  • Jose Abreu 1B | HOU

White Sox's Jose Abreu: X-rays come back negative

Abreu has been diagnosed with a bruised left knee after X-rays came back negative following his exit from Sunday's game against Seattle.

Abreu could not put any weight on his left leg after being hit by a pitch and exiting in the bottom of the sixth inning. The slugger appears to have avoided an injury that would require an extended absence, though it wouldn't be surprising if he's forced to miss a few games. He's considered day-to-day.

  • Josh Naylor 1B | SEA

Indians' Josh Naylor: Carted off with apparent leg injury

Naylor was carted off after appearing to suffer a leg injury while colliding with Ernie Clement during Sunday's game against Minnesota, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

It looks like a serious injury for Naylor, given that he was taken off on a cart after rolling around on the ground in pain. Cleveland will likely provide a further update later Sunday, but Naylor seems almost certain to miss substantial time.

  • Jose Abreu 1B | HOU

White Sox's Jose Abreu: Exits after being hit on knee

Abreu could not put weight on his left leg and needed to be helped off the field after being hit by a pitch on the knee during Sunday's game against Seattle, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. Andrew Vaughn replaced him as a pinch runner and figures to stay in the game at first base.

This is obviously a terrible sight for the already injury-riddled White Sox. The club should provide further update later Sunday, but at this point it wouldn't be surprising if Abreu is forced to sit at least the next few days.

  • Dominic Smith DH | ATL

Mets' Dominic Smith: On bench Sunday

Smith is not in the lineup Sunday against the Phillies.

Smith is 5-for-21 and is without an extra-base hit over his past six games, and he'll head to the bench Sunday. Billy McKinney will start in left field in his place.
