  • Spencer Steer 1B | CIN

Reds' Spencer Steer: Out of Sunday's lineup

Steer is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays.

Steer started the first two games of the series and will receive Sunday off after going 1-for-7 with two walks, a run and three strikeouts. He's batting just .213 (13-for-61) with four extra-base hits through 19 contests in July. Santiago Espinal is starting at first base in the series finale.

  • Bryce Harper DH | PHI

Phillies' Bryce Harper: Reaches double digits in steals

Harper went 1-for-5 with a walk, a solo home run and a stolen base in Saturday's 9-4 win over the Yankees.

Just a couple days after slugging career homer No. 350, Harper hit his 351st while also swiping his 150th bag for his 10th steal of the season. The 32-year-old has come out of the All-Star break firing, batting .303 (10-for-33) over the last eight games with four doubles, five home runs, eight RBI and nine runs.

  • Michael Toglia 1B | COL

Rockies' Michael Toglia: Not starting Saturday

Toglia isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Orioles, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

After going 0-for-15 over his last four games, the switch-hitting Toglia will step out of the starting nine Saturday against left-handed starter Trevor Rogers. Warming Bernabel will make his MLB debut as Colorado's first baseman while Toglia rests.

  • Tyler Black 2B | MIL

Brewers' Tyler Black: Returns to minors

Milwaukee optioned Black to Triple-A Nashville on Saturday.

Black had been called up from Nashville on Sunday and got into three games with the Brewers (though he made only one start), going went 2-for-6 with a double and an RBI. His return to the minors Saturday makes room on the 26-man roster for the return of Sal Frelick (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list.

  • Otto Kemp 3B | PHI

    Phillies' Otto Kemp: Resting Saturday

Kemp isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Yankees.

Kemp will grab a seat on the bench Saturday after going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts during Friday's series opener. Edmundo Sosa will fill in at the hot corner and bat seventh.

  • Diamondbacks' Tristin English: Starts at first base

English started at first base and went 0-for-3 in Friday's 1-0 extra-innings win over the Pirates.

English got the start at first base in the first game Arizona played after trading Josh Naylor on Thursday. English was eventually lifted for a pinch hitter, and Eugenio Suarez moved from third to first base. While Pavin Smith (oblique) remains on the 10-day injured list, English should see the majority of starts at first base.

  • Cardinals' Willson Contreras: Launches another homer

Contreras went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, a home run and four RBI in Thursday's 9-7 win against San Diego.

The first baseman put St. Louis on the board with an RBI double in the opening frame and followed up with a three-run homer in the second inning. Contreras has a modest four-game hit streak with an extra-base hit in each of those contests, going 9-for-21 with four doubles and two home runs. The strong performance coming out of the All-Star break has boosted his season slash line to .262/.345/.452 through 98 games.

  • Diamondbacks' Tristin English: Recalled following Naylor trade

The Diamondbacks recalled English from Triple-A Reno on Thursday, Aaron Hughes of SI.com reports.

With Josh Naylor shipped to Seattle in a trade Thursday, Arizona is bringing English back up to fill the void at first base. Pavin Smith (oblique) is still on the 10-day injured list, so English should get plenty of opportunities while Smith is idle. English made his MLB debut earlier in July, going 0-for-4 with one RBI and a pair of strikeouts in one game before being sent back down. He's slashed .341/.390/.566 with 11 home runs, 65 RBI and 44 runs scored at Triple-A this year.

  • Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Plays hero Wednesday

Freeman went 2-for-5 with a run, a stolen base and two RBI in Wednesday's 4-3 win against Minnesota.

Freeman capped a ninth-inning comeback with a two-out, two-run, walk-off single that just evaded the reach of a diving Harrison Bader. The knock was Freeman's second hit of the game, marking just his second multi-hit appearance over his past 15 contests. The All-Star first baseman is batting an uncharacteristically poor .204 during that stretch, though he's still at a .295 batting average on the campaign, the third-best figure among qualified National League hitters.

  • Pirates' Spencer Horwitz: Slugs grand slam

Horwitz went 1-for-4 with a grand slam Wednesday against the Tigers.

Horwitz has struggled for most of July, but he is turning things around since the All-Star break. He has hits in each of his last four games, including a pair of doubles and a home run. Horwitz also looks to be the Pirates' primary leadoff hitter, at least against right-handed pitching, after briefly ceding the role to Tommy Pham.
