  • Pete Alonso 1B | NYM

Mets' Pete Alonso: Homers in loss

Alonso went 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and two RBI in Friday's 4-3 extra-inning loss to the Giants.

Alonso got the Mets on the board with a 414-foot blast in the seventh inning and then tied the game in the eighth with a sacrifice fly. It was a much-need effort from the 30-year-old, as he'd gone just 1-for-23 since last homering July 23. For the year, he's slashing .260/.352/.498 with 23 long balls, 83 RBI, 55 runs scored and a stolen base across 475 plate appearances.

  • Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Continues to heat up with homer

Freeman went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and three RBI in Friday's 5-0 win over the Rays.

Freeman launched his 12th homer of the season, and he's now logged at least one hit in nine of his last 10 games. Although he underwent a dramatic cooldown at the dish in June and the first part of July following a sizzling start to the year, Freeman is finally getting back on track of late. Over his last 15 games (64 plate appearances), the All-Star first baseman is slashing .321/.406/.518 with two long balls, five doubles and 12 RBI.

  • Jared Triolo 3B | PIT

    Pirates' Jared Triolo: Officially promoted

The Pirates recalled Triolo from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday.

Triolo is expected to take over as the primary third baseman in Pittsburgh now that Ke'Bryan Hayes is on the Reds. Triolo has slashed just .158/.253/.266 with 10 RBI and 12 runs scored through 160 plate appearances this season, but his glove should be enough to keep him in the lineup most days.

  • Diamondbacks' Tristin English: Demoted to Triple-A

The Diamondbacks optioned English to Triple-A Reno on Friday.

The 28-year-old received a brief look as Arizona's starting first baseman after Josh Naylor was traded, but Tyler Locklear will now take over the job after being acquired Thursday in the Eugenio Suarez deal. English has gone 2-for-22 with a double and an RBI in seven MLB games this season.

  • Otto Kemp 3B | PHI

Phillies' Otto Kemp: Not in Friday's lineup

Kemp is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Tigers, Charlotte Varnes of The Athletic reports.

Kemp started the previous four games and will receive a day off after going 3-for-15 with two homers during that span. Edmundo Sosa will take over at the hot corner Friday for Philadelphia.

  • Callan Moss 1B | PIT

Pirates' Callan Moss: Shipped to Buccos

The Pirates acquired Moss and Evan Sisk from the Royals on Thursday in exchange for Bailey Falter, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.

Moss had a .917 OPS at the Single-A level in his first taste of professional ball in 2024, and he has a .270/.372/.418 slash line in 92 games at the High-A level this year. The 22-year-old isn't a significant prospect but will provide organizational depth at first base for the Pirates.

  • Ryan O'Hearn 1B | SD

Padres' Ryan O'Hearn: Heading to San Diego

O'Hearn was traded from the Orioles to the Padres on Thursday along with Ramon Laureano, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. The Orioles received Boston Bateman, Brandon Butterworth, Victor Figueroa, Cobb Hightower, Tyson Neighbors and Tanner Smith in return.

Several teams were in on O'Hearn, but the Padres went big to acquire both him and Laureano. O'Hearn typically sits against lefties, but he is slashing .294/.384/.490 with 13 home runs in 255 at-bats against righties this season.

  • Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Snaps homer drought Wednesday

Freeman went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run and two walks Wednesday in a loss to Cincinnati.

Prior to Wednesday, Freeman had gone 23 games without a homer. He snapped that drought in the fourth inning against Reds hurler Nick Martinez, bashing a two-run shot to account for Los Angeles' only runs of the game. Freeman has reached base safely in eight of his past nine contests and is slashing .343/.425/.457 with seven RBI during that span.

  • Giants' Dominic Smith: Multi-hit effort in defeat

Smith went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Wednesday's 2-1 extra-inning loss to the Pirates.

Smith tallied two of the Giants' six hits and delivered an RBI single in the fourth inning. The first baseman has seen a slight dip in playing time since the All-Star break, logging a plate appearance in five of San Francisco's 12 games in that stretch. During that span, he's slashing .412/.500/.471 with two RBI, two runs scored and a double across 20 plate appearances.

  • Tyler Locklear 3B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Tyler Locklear: Expected to get first look at 1B

The Diamondbacks plan to deploy Locklear as their primary starting first baseman after acquiring him in a trade with the Mariners on Wednesday, John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM reports.

Pavin Smith (oblique) should return from the 10-day injured list sometime in August, but he could remain mostly at designated hitter while Locklear receives an opportunity to become the Diamondbacks' long-term answer at first base. Locklear struggled during his cup of coffee in the majors last season but has slashed .316/.401/.542 with 19 home runs and 17 stolen bases in 434 plate appearances at Triple-A Tacoma this season.
