White Sox 1B Jose Abreu (finger) unable to start Tuesday

White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu was hoping to return to the starting lineup Tuesday against the Rangers after sitting out two games due to a finger injury. However, he was held out a third straight game, as Adam LaRoche once again started at first base in Abreu's absence.

"The swelling has decreased," general manager Rick Hahn said, per MLB.com. "He still has a little bit of a bruise on the finger below the knuckle that hasn't completely resolved itself. We're going to hold him out today, keep him away from activity again today, but hopefully tomorrow start ramping up again and hopefully have him back out there in the not-too-distant future. It's just not quite to the spot where we want to put him out there in games."

"You could send him out there and one swing could probably send him back five more days," Ventura said. "It's gotten a lot better than it was in Houston. It's just not to a point where I'm comfortable having him go out there and swing full-time in a game."

Abreu is batting .293 with one triple, three doubles, three home runs and 14 RBI in his last 25 games.

  • Blue Jays' Chris Colabello pushes hit streak to a dozen games

Blue Jays outfielder Chris Colabello extended his current hitting streak to 12 games with a 1-for-4 effort in Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Nationals. Colabello, who didn't make his season-debut until May 5, is batting .362 with three home runs and eight RBI during his hit streak.

Of note, Colabello has been held hitless in just five of the 26 games he's played in this season, which has helped lead him to his current .364 batting average for the season.

White Sox 1B Jose Abreu expecting to return to the lineup Tuesday

White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu missed his second consecutive game on Sunday with a finger injury, but is expecting to be back in the lineup on Tuesday, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Abreu received an X-ray on the injured finger on Friday, but knew it wasn't broken. However, it was still causing him a tremendous amount of pain, something that made it even harder to watch on the sidelines.

"I don't like to be on the bench, that's for sure," Abreu said through an interpreter. "I come here every day trying to help the team win, and when you're on the bench and see your teammates playing and you're unable to help them, it's frustrating."

Abreu is hitting .282 with eight home runs and 29 RBI in 181 at-bats this season.

Angels' Kole Calhoun bumped to sixth spot in lineup Sunday

Angels right fielder Kole Calhoun has been moved down to the No. 6 spot in the batting order in Sunday's matchup with the Tigers.

The lefty-swinging outfielder has typically batted cleanup over the last few weeks, but he'll slide down a few spots against Tigers lefty David Price. Despite the move, Calhoun has hit a little better against lefties than righties this season.

The Angels are slight favorites (-107) at home on Sunday, per VegasInsider.com.

Indians designate Jerry Sands for assignment

The Indians designated outfielder Jerry Sands for assignment on Sunday.

The move opens a roster spot for Carlos Santana, who was activated from the paternity list in a corresponding move. Sands made just one appearance during his current stint with the Indians, going 1 for 1 with a walk and a two-run home run on Saturday.

Santana was placed on the paternity list on Thursday, hitting home runs in two of his last three games before being deactivated. He has hit .221/.374/.383 with six home runs and 27 RBI in 149 at-bats.

  • Jose Abreu 1B | HOU

White Sox's Jose Abreu remains sidelined Sunday

White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros.

Abreu was removed from Friday's game due to a finger issue and sat out Saturday as well. X-rays on the injured finger came back negative, leaving the first baseman day-to-day. With Abreu out, the White Sox are using Adam LaRoche at first base, while Conor Gillaspie slides into the DH role on Sunday.

The White Sox are underdogs (+135) in Houston on Sunday, per VegasInsider.com.
