  • Andy Wilkins 1B | MIN

Twins' Andy Wilkins: Joins Twins on minor-league deal

Wilkins formally signed a minor-league contract with the Twins on Monday.

He was thrust into action right away with the Twins' Double-A Chattanooga affiliate, and Wilkins made a nice first impression, doubling twice in his debut with the Lookouts. Wilkins had been playing in independent ball after slashing .235/.321/.419 with Triple-A Colorado Springs and just .125/.222/.292 with the Brewers last season. The 28-year-old is a long shot to reach the majors this year.

  • Kole Calhoun 1B | CLE

Angels' Kole Calhoun: Ups RBI count to 30

Calhoun went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run during Sunday's win over Houston.

Calhoun has caught fire of late with seven multi-hit showing through his past 10 games for a 1.283 OPS, four home runs, 13 RBI and eight runs. He still sports a lackluster .239/.325/.382 slash line for the season, but his recent heater has his counting stats closer to where fantasy owners would expect (nine homers, 30 RBI and 29 runs). The 29-year-old outfield is getting himself back on track to post another serviceable campaign.

  • Yuli Gurriel DH | SD

Astros' Yulieski Gurriel: Extends hit streak to 11

Gurriel went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 12-6 loss to the Angels.

Gurriel is chugging along right now, having hit in 11 straight games with three homers. He's knocked in 14 men during the hitting streak, nearly half of the 29 RBI he has over 54 games. Oddly enough for the right-handed hitter, he's mashed right-handers while hitting just .173 against southpaws.

  • C.J. Cron 1B | BOS

Angels' C.J. Cron: Starts against righty Saturday

Cron got the nod at first against the right-handed Mike Fiers on Saturday, going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in a 3-1 loss to the Astros.

It appeared that a platoon at first base with Luis Valbuena was developing, but manager Mike Scioscia revealed his plans to give both players semi-regular playing time, according to The Orange County Register's Jeff Fletcher. Cron has started four of the six games since being recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake, contributing a home run and four RBI over that span. A strict platoon would have depleted the majority of the 27-year-old's fantasy value, but with the news of a time share, deep-league owners could look to the slugger for some sporadic power.

  • Jose Abreu 1B | HOU

White Sox's Jose Abreu: Returns to lineup Saturday

Abreu (leg) is back in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Indians.

He'll hit out of the No. 3 spot in the order after leaving Friday's game early when he was hit on the leg by a pitch. Abreu will draw a favorable matchup against Josh Tomlin, against whom he's gone 6-for-15 with a 1.171 OPS.

  • Matt Olson 1B | ATL

Athletics' Matt Olson: Called up by A's

Olson was recalled by the A's on Saturday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The young outfielder was expected to be down at Triple-A until at least mid June after being optioned earlier in the week, but an injury to Andrew Triggs allowed him to come back up to the big-league club. Olson went 1-for-3 in his earlier stint with the A's and he has a .286/.376/.582 slash line with 15 home runs at Triple-A Nashville this season. He will not be in Saturday's lineup but he could be available off the bench.

  • Kole Calhoun 1B | CLE

Angels' Kole Calhoun: Drives in three Friday

Calhoun went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored Friday against the Angels.

As with all Angels outfielders, given the absence of Mike Trout (thumb), Calhoun has been called upon to impress, and recently, he has. Since the start of June, he is 13-for-27 with four home runs, 10 RBI and seven runs scored in 27 at-bats.

  • Jose Abreu 1B | HOU

White Sox's Jose Abreu: Appears fine after hit-by-pitch

Abreu is feeling good and has reported minimal swelling after taking a hit-by-pitch off the leg Friday, CSN Chicago reports.

According to manager Rick Renteria, the club considers Abreu day-to-day going forward. Considering an evaluation found nothing more than a bruise and his symptoms Friday night seemed minimal, it would be surprising if this kept Abreu out for multiple games.

  • Jose Abreu 1B | HOU

White Sox's Jose Abreu: Leaves early with bruised leg

Abreu was forced to leave Friday's game against Cleveland with a bruised left leg, Darly Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Abreu was replaced by a pinch runner after he was hit by a pitch in the top of the seventh inning. He will be re-evaluated Saturday, so expect an update sometime before the 7:15 PM first pitch, and consider him day-to-day until then.

  • Yuli Gurriel DH | SD

Astros' Yulieski Gurriel: Out of lineup Friday

Gurriel is not in Friday's lineup against the Angels, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Gurriel gets his first day off since June 3, with Marwin Gonzalez manning first base and batting sixth Friday. With a nine-game hit streak to his name, Gurriel will likely be back in the lineup Saturday.
