Rays' Yandy Diaz: Nursing hamstring injury

Diaz isn't starting Tuesday's game against the Yankees due to a hamstring issue, Eduardo A. Encina of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The Rays are holding Diaz out for the second straight day as a precaution, and they're optimistic that he won't require a trip to the injured list. He'll be considered day-to-day moving forward.

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Retreats to bench

Diaz isn't in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Yankees, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

Diaz will get his second consecutive day off, making way for Joey Wendle to draw the start at the hot corner.

  • Kole Calhoun 1B | CLE

Angels' Kole Calhoun: Smashes 15th home run

Calhoun went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, two runs and a walk in Monday's win against the Blue Jays.

In Justin Upton's (toe) first game back from the 60-day injured list, Calhoun showed his worth in the Angels' crowded outfield with a homer of his own, his 15th of the season. The 31-year-old has been a reliable option in Upton's absence, carrying a slash line of .235/.327/.482 with 37 RBI, but Upton's return means that Calhoun will likely split time with Brian Goodwin in right field going forward. Goodwin carries a higher batting average of .289, but has only six home runs and 24 RBI, meaning that Calhoun could be the slight favorite for playing time.

    Rays' Yandy Diaz: Gets breather

Diaz is not in the lineup Monday against the Yankees, Josh Tolentino of The Athletic reports.

Diaz has started 15 consecutive games since returning from the injured list June 2, slashing .361/.426/.508 with two homers, nine RBI and a 7:9 BB:K during that stretch. Joey Wendle is starting at the hot corner and hitting eighth in place of Diaz in this one.

  • Evan White 1B | LAA

Mariners' Evan White: Raking at Double-A

White is slashing .380/.421/.704 with a double, two triples, six home runs, 14 RBI and 20 runs over his current 17-game hitting streak at Double-A Arkansas, per the Mariners' official minor-league Twitter account.

White had gotten off to a hot start with the Travelers before a hip flexor issue landed him on the minor-league injured list in April. He struggled initially upon returning, but his current tear has boosted his season line to a rock-solid .293/.364/.483. Those numbers serve as an extension of the success White has enjoyed at each professional stop thus far, and if he's able to maintain them, a promotion to Triple-A Tacoma before season's end presumably isn't out of the question.

  • Jose Abreu 1B | HOU

White Sox's Jose Abreu: Three-hit day

Abreu went 3-for-4 with a solo home run Sunday in the White Sox's 10-3 loss to the Yankees.

Abreu has had the reputation of being a slow starter since debuting in the majors in 2014, but he's already up to 17 home runs with just under a month to go before the All-Star break. With young players Tim Anderson and Yoan Moncada taking big steps forward this season and rookie Eloy Jimenez's bat beginning to heat up, Abreu should have a good chance at reaching the 100-RBI plateau for the fifth time in six years after driving in only 78 runs in 2018.

  • Rowdy Tellez 1B | ATL

Blue Jays' Rowdy Tellez: Launches 11th homer

Tellez went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Sunday's rout of the Astros.

His first-inning shot off Brad Peacock set the tone in a 12-0 win, and was one of five homers the Jays launched on the day. Tellez continues to have trouble making consistent contact -- he's hitting only .135 (5-for-37) so far in June with a 0:8 BB:K -- but the rookie is up to 11 home runs and 30 RBI in 59 games on the year.

  • Yuli Gurriel DH | SD

Astros' Yuli Gurriel: Gets day off

Gurriel is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Due to the Astros' mounting injuries, Gurriel has been seeing most of his action at third base lately, but he'll cede the position to Alex Bregman for the series finale. Though he's held a fairly stable role all season, Gurriel has yet to catch fire at the plate, delivering a lowly .678 OPS through 278 plate appearances. Once the likes of Jose Altuve (hamstring), George Springer (hamstring) and Carlos Correa (ribs) are back from the injured list, Gurriel could be at risk of surrendering primary duties at first base to top prospect Yordan Alvarez.

  • C.J. Cron 1B | BOS

    Twins' C.J. Cron: Resting Sunday

Cron is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Cron started each of the Twins' previous four contests, going 3-for-16 with a home run and three RBI. Ehire Adrianza will enter the starting nine at first base in Cron's stead and bat ninth.

  • Kole Calhoun 1B | CLE

Angels' Kole Calhoun: Takes seat amid rough stretch

Calhoun is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Calhoun has gone hitless in 14 at-bats over the Angels' last four games, further compounding what had already been a trying season for the 31-year-old. While Calhoun will sit in favor of Cesar Puello in the series finale, both players could be in jeopardy of losing out on starts when Justin Upton (toe) returns from the 60-day injured list Monday.
