  • Bobby Dalbec 1B | CHW

Red Sox's Bobby Dalbec: Goes yard Saturday

Dalbec went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Saturday's 8-2 win over Atlanta.

Dalbec opened the scoring in the second inning with his blast off Atlanta starter Tucker Davidson. The Red Sox rallied for six more runs in the inning and cruised to the win. Dalbec has eight homers, 16 RBI, 12 runs scored and a .273/.356/.623 slash line in his first 22 major-league games.

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Optimism for return growing

Diaz (hamstring) went through what manager Kevin Cash labeled a "lighter day" of workouts Saturday, and optimism remains high for his availability early in the postseason, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

Diaz ran the bases and hit live pitching Friday, and although he wasn't as active Saturday, he remains on track to suit up sooner rather than later. Cash noted Diaz and fellow injured infielder Ji-Man Choi will have a more comprehensive workout again Monday, at which point there will be more clarity on both players for a postseason that begins Tuesday. Diaz will have some rust to work off when he does return, considering he last saw game action Aug. 31.

  • Twins' LaMonte Wade: Optioned off roster

Wade was optioned to the Twins' alternate training site Saturday.

Wade's latest stint on the big-league roster lasted three weeks. He got into nine games, posting a .713 OPS. Luis Arraez (knee/ankle) returned from the injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Josh Naylor 1B | SEA

Indians' Josh Naylor: Not starting Saturday

Naylor isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Pirates.

Naylor went 1-for-4 over the past two games, and he'll get a breather even with a right-hander (Joe Musgrove) on the mound for Pittsburgh. Jordan Luplow will take over in left field Saturday.

  • Bobby Dalbec 1B | CHW

Red Sox's Bobby Dalbec: Starts at third base

Dalbec started at third base and went 1-for-3 with two walks and an RBI in Friday's 8-7 extra-innings loss to the Braves.

Dalbec is projected as Boston's everyday first baseman in 2021, but it should be remembered he came up through the system as a very capable defensive third baseman. Rafael Devers is Boston's starter at the hot corner, but he's struggled on defense. He eventually entered Friday's game and committed his 14th error. After showing improvement with his glove in 2019, Devers has regressed this season. It's likely the Red Sox will work on Devers' fielding issues, but they may eventually consider swapping their corner infielders.

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Continues making progress

Diaz (hamstring) ran and hit in a simulated game Friday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

Diaz is still working his way back from a hamstring injury that has kept him sidelined for the entirety of September. With three days left in the regular season, it appears quite likely that his campaign is over, but he could still play a role in the playoffs.

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Blasts eighth homer

Guerrero went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Thursday's 4-1 win over the Yankees.

His second-inning blast opened the scoring as the Jays clinched a playoff berth. Guerrero is heating up in the regular season's final days, collecting nine hits in the last four games including three doubles, a triple and Thursday's long ball, and on the season the 21-year-old is hitting .263 with eight homers and 32 RBI through 57 games.

  • Rowdy Tellez 1B | ATL

Blue Jays' Rowdy Tellez: Return not imminent

Tellez (knee) continues to work through a running progression but is not expected to be ready for a potential playoff roster Tuesday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Toronto appears ticketed for the wild card, and Tellez is not expected to be an option for that round of the playoffs. However, if the team advances, he could be ready to join the fray. The Blue Jays will continue to use the designated hitter spot as a way to give everyday players a break from playing the field.

  • Ty France 1B | SD

Mariners' Ty France: Another pair of RBI in win

France went 2-for-4 with a run-scoring single and an RBI double in a win over the Astros on Wednesday.

France is now slashing .444/.500/.556 in his 40 plate appearances with runners in scoring position this season following another pair of clutch hits Wednesday. The 26-year-old also pushed his season line to .302/.367/.476 with his multi-hit effort, his third of the last five games.

  • Yandy Diaz DH | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Taking live hacks again Thursday

Diaz (hamstring) is slated to take live batting practice against Jose Alvarado (shoulder) on Thursday at Tropicana Field, the Associated Press reports.

Diaz was able to also take live batting practice Tuesday and came out of the session without setbacks, but he didn't do much running and was reportedly still feeling soreness in his right leg. The 29-year-old appears unlikely to be available for any of Tampa's remaining regular-season games, with a target of an early-postseason return for the AL East champion Rays the likely goal at this point. Juan Toribio of MLB.com also reports Diaz will test himself with what manager Kevin Cash described as "right-at-them groundballs" during the session, "just see how [his] hamstrings feel in the position of fielding a groundball and then coming up and making a throw out of that."
